Amazon.com A Night Out with the Backstreet Boys is a romantic, heartfelt, and intimate live performance recorded in Germany in 1998. An introduction with members Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough explains that the Boys have always wanted to perform for their fans and themselves in an acoustic concert. Much like the well-known MTV Unplugged series, the Backstreet Boys perform with a full orchestra and a small choir for background vocals. There is no choreography, they do mostly ballads and mid-tempo songs, and most of the time they casually sit on bar stools. The group is exposed musically, providing the opportunity to show their fans and their critics that the Backstreet Boys "really do have talent." Starting with "Who Do You Love," "As Long as You Love Me," and "10,000 Promises," there can be no mistaking that the Backstreet Boys do indeed have real musical talent. The solo section begins with Brian Littrell singing "That's What She Said/Where Can We Go from Here?" and accompanying himself on guitar, followed by A.J. McLean doing a soulful "Lay Down Beside Me." Nick Carter performs "I Need You Tonight" and Howie shines on "My Heart Stays with You." Kevin closes the solo section with a beautiful, untitled piano instrumental. Finally, the boys return to the stage for "Like a Child," the up-tempo "All I Have to Give," a medley of "If I Don't Have You/I'll Never Break Your Heart," "Quit Playing Games with My Heart," and a new arrangement of "Let's Have a Party." The stylish video versions of "All I Have to Give" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart" are also included to complete this 70-minute "night out." --Larry Clark

This video shows their TRUE vocal talents!!! June 11, 1999 15 out of 15 found this review helpful
I bought this video expecting a lot of dancing and ya know the usual. But as soon as Kevin and Howie explained that the show was totally acoustic, my ears perked up. When they sang the very first song "Who Do You Love?" I started to cry. For the very first time, I heard the Backstreet Boys liked I'd never heard them before. This video is a must have for ALL BSB fans.. You get to hear them sing like they've never sang before. It gives each of them a chance to shine as they all sing a solo. Kevin, however, decided to play a piano piece that he wrote 3 years ago. If you're a big BSB fan like me, get a box of tissue. You'll see by the end of the video what a talented bunch of guys they are.P.S)They have an All I Have to Give video at the end that wasn't released in the U.S. It has an awesome water scene, and different shots of the guys, plus and extra dance scene.
GREAT!! August 23, 1999 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
This video is one of the best Backstreet videos yet!! If you're looking for great harmony, awesome solo performances, and actually HEARING the Backstreet sing LIVE in concert, this is the video for you! Howie pays a good rendition of "My heart stays with you"; AJ is just very sensual in "Lay down beside me"; Nick beautifully sings "I need you tonight"; Kevin actually plays the piano during a song that he wrote, which was at the time still nameless and later became "Back to your heart"; and Brian introduces us to a brand new and might I add BEAUTIFUL song written by him in the medley "That's what she said/Where can we go?"... and if that's not enough, they sing "Who do you love?", the whole song!! I'm telling you, it's a must!!!
TALENT & LOOKS--ALL ROLLED INTO ONE GROUP! November 16, 1999 frisky2000 (smallville) 17 out of 19 found this review helpful
I'm not ashamed to say it: I'm in my thirties and I LOVE THE BACKSTREET BOYS' music! Thisvideo exposes the talent that their non-fans sometimes feel they just don't possess because they're such good looking guys. But these five young guys prove you CAN have looks, brains and talent, not to mention be gracious to fans and respectful of lyrics and not sending wrong messages in their songs. They have a great sound, very easy to listen to, and this Night Out video will convince you to head to your music shop and pick up all their stuff, even the imports that are hard to find (BUT AMAZON HAS 'EM! )
minus the corny dance moves June 5, 2005 soppyaltoid 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I chose to get one BSB video, and I'm glad I chose this one. This collection features harmony-based pop/r&b sounds from early backstreet. It has a few songs from their European debut album, and that was a good thing for me because I love hearing songs that I'm not already familiar with. The best one was the opener, "Who do you Love". Besides that, you also get their early slow and midtempo songs, plus solos. Brian blew me away with his angelic voice and his 2nd solo song. He definitely has the r&b thing going on, sounds like Brian McKnight. Nick's solo is a keeper, too. And Kevin on piano duet with the saxophone--the true "romantic moment".
Very good release that puts the VOCALS above anything else.

This is a Backstreet Boys concert the way you dreamed it could be, without the audience or music drowning out those magnificant voices. If you can only have one video, choose this one.
