Atomic Kitten Could've and SHOULD'VE Done Better! January 6, 2005 DivingIntheBlue (United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love Atomic Kitten. I honestly do. I'm in my twenties, older than the Kittens themselves but, I find myself drawn to their catchy hooks and dance moves. Sue me! Anyhow, since I live in the U.S and Atomic Kitten isn't really all that popular round these parts, I decided to buy this dvd and see what the Kittens are all about. First off, I'm guessing the average age of a kitten fan is about 12 and that is exactly the demo this dvd goes for. It's cartoon-y and aimed for kids. That alone makes it a tad irritating to watch. The girls are pleasant enough. Their cockney accents make it a bit hard to understand them (They're originally from Liverpool)and maybe it's just MY copy but, the sound on the dvd is really hard to hear unless you turn the volume WAYYYYY up. Odd. The concept of "Be With Us" is a year with Atomic Kitten. Ok, fair enough. We get to see Jenny's parent's house and Lil's house and Natasha's...um...nothing about Tash. We see them touring and the hectic schudule they keep. Pretty boring and and run of the mill. The girls sometimes play up a little too much for the camera (This means you Jenny!). The real redeeming quality of this DVD are the videos. Since American MTV would never play these, I'm happy to own them. My advice to anyone about to purchase this dvd? Save your dough. Seriously. Unless you're 10, you won't enjoy this. I'd advise any Atomic Kitten fan to buy the Greatest Hits Live At Wembley Arena dvd instead.
Shows the real Atomic Kitten - brilliant March 16, 2004 Weather Warden <3 (Auckland, NZ) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This DVD is fantastic, absolutely fantastic. It shows the real Atomic Kitten, how they are behind all the glitz, glamour and makeup. You really get to know the girls - in depth interviews bring you to closer to Jenny Frost, Natasha Hamilton and Liz McClarnon. The DVD includes: A an hour and half long feature - with everything you could want. It has interviews with the girls, they talk about how their year (the end of 2002, up to the release of the DVD in 2003), about their singles and albums, what it feels like to be a popstar and performances. You see the girls performing at various events - including massive gigs and a concert in someone's lounge! You get behind the scenes looks at the videos, seeing how Tide Is High, Last Goodbye and If You Come To Me were made. You also go on tour with the Kittens around Singapore and Bangkok, follow them around the UK on promotion, in South Africa doing a concert and even entertaining kids in Lapland. Also included is a trip to Liz's house, and a trip to Jenny's home. It shows the girls being their wacky selves, and I had a good laugh at some of the things the girls said. My favourite bits of the feature were: -The part where Tash and Jenny took out a bicycle in Singapore and couldn't stop screaming when the man who was driving started driving like a maniac -The part where the Kittens are in Bangkok, and they go to a market in the evening and there's a pirate CD stand and the guy on the stand is trying to hide the Atomic Kitten CD -The radio interview in Bangkok where the girls do the Touch My Bum song by the Cheeky Girls, and when Jenny breaks their cupboardYou also get the full videos to The Tide Is High, Last Goodbye, Be With You, If You Come To Me and Ladies Night. Love Doesn't Have To Hurt is missing from my DVD, I wonder if it's like that on everybody's? But the videos are all extremely good - Ladies Night is my favourite. This DVD is extremely good value - it shows you a year in the life of Atomic Kitten, and has a load of good laughs, and shows that the Kittens aren't snobby or bitchy, they're just like us.
