    1 out of 5 stars Disgrace To Jimi's Legacy   August 15, 2005

This DVD is a disgrace to Jimi's memory AND legacy. If anyone is truly interested in the final days and moments of Jimi's life, they should check out the late Tony Brown's book entitled "HENDRIX: The Final Days," which was published in 1997, by Rogan House. This book, a copy of which I do personally own, was a forensic examination into the August 27, 1970 to September 18, 1970 time frame. Also included in this book are copies of the death certificate and coroner's inquest report. Anyone who is seriously interested in this subject would be much better served by getting Tony Brown's book, and forgetting about this horrible DVD, which itself is a waste of BOTH time and money.

NOTE: I would have given this DVD ZERO STARS, if it was possible to do so.

1 out of 5 stars Horrible, a disgrace to a great man.   June 26, 2005

Just the speculative depection of Jimi's final minutes were enough to not only want me to destroy this DVD, but all other copies and the master video print itself. I can watch a lot of unusual video, but these scenes made me look away in disgust. Do not patronize this DVD or its company...total trash. This was shown to me, BTW...I didn't waste my money buying it, don't you buy it either. I immediately put in videos of the REAL man with the guitar to watch The Master in action and honor his memory.

    1 out of 5 stars What a joke-Townshend/Clapton/Beck fans..don't waste your $   January 4, 2005

This unauthorized DVD deals with the idea that foul play was involved in the late, great Jimi's death. Quite frankly, some of the ideas brought forth that support this conspiracy theory are ludicrous.

Furthermore, the arguements are supported by reinactments, which are seriously goofy.

This DVD also goes so far as to imply that Keith Richards is dead. It does not state that he is dead, rather Richards is compared to Jimi, Janis, Morrison, etc. as those who died while their light was still bright (or something like that). As we all know, Keith Richards is very much alive!

Now, some of the people interviewed are decent--Keith Altham is the only name I recognized--and Jimi's musical history is somewhat reviewed, but overall, I would not suggest buying this.

I am not a Hendrix completist, rather a Who fan, whose only real interest in this title was my understanding that Pete Townshend was somehow involved. He is NOT. He is not interviewed. He is mentioned once, I think. Same with Clapton and Beck.

    3 out of 5 stars jury's out   June 2, 2006

"This DVD is a disgrace to Jimi's memory AND legacy."

If someone has amped up and twisted information to create a conspiracy in order to make money from this DVD, then that comment would be true. If there is a possibility of foul play then it should surely be investigated.

Jimi Hendrix: The Last 24 Hours plays like an hour long conspiracy theory mixed with some insight into the life and career of one of the greatest guitar players of all time. Here's the skinny for those who care...

The producers of the DVD present interviews with a bunch of people who shed new light into Jimi's death, conflicting with autopsy reports that the guitarist died from an overdose of sleeping pills. These folks present the case that Hendrix was killed as a result of a plot put together by his management group, who also had ties with a government entity who were trying to rid society of rock stars and entertainers who were involved with racial and militant groups. In Jimi's case, The Black Panthers. Sound a little out there? Well, after you hear how Monica Dannemann's testimony had tons of holes in it (and the fact that she mysteriously died from an apparent suicide just hours before she was suppsed to go on a TV show to tell the "real" story of Jimi's death in 1995), as well as reports from the actual paramedics on the scene who now claim that Jimi was lying in bed, fully dressed, apparently dead for hours, with lungs filled with red wine, and Monica nowhere in sight, you begin to wonder. The producers re-enactment of the hours leading up to Hendrix's death are rather laughable, as the actors playing Hendrix and Dannemann seem way out of their league (although the actress playing Monika is indeed a hottie!) and give parts of this DVD a cheap cable TV feel to it. There is a nice 30 page booklet included that has some great live shots of Jimi and full text explaining what is gone over on the DVD.

If all this seems a little overly dramatic, well it is, and whose to say that any of this holds any truth to it, but a little controversy always makes for an intriguing view. Plus, there are lots of quick live footage snippets from throughout Hendrix's career to enjoy, many you may be seeing for the first time. But if you are expecting full songs and extended live sequences, better look elsewhere.
