    Description
The longest running rock tour in history comes home at last - on DVD w/ a live CD too - celebrating 10 years on the road! Go inside the Ozzfest Tour's 10th year, with 60,000 fans at the UK show to the 103º heat of the back lots in Camden, NJ. Ozzy, Sharon & Jack turn out to show, and tell, how a simple idea became one of rock's biggest festivals. The artists and fans of Ozzfest became a mush of togetherness and the music, well, that's what it's all about! Ozzy and his festival are now multi-generational and fans, young and old, show up to prove it. The DVD offers the whole story OR a "play concert only" feature. Like Ozzfest, it is ALL about the fan experience.

2 out of 5 stars When I think of an anniversary collection, I think of the complete history   January 4, 2006

    The Good
On the DVD menu screen you get two menu options. You can watch just the live performances that include such up-and-coming acts as Gizmachi, It Dies Today, A Dozen Furies, Trivium, Soilwork, The Haunted, HIM, and Wicked Wisdom and brand names such as Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Velvet Revolver, and Black Sabbath. The other option is to watch said performances with added documentary footage. I highly recommend watching the latter. In addition to some great performances (better in 5.1), you get insight on the past and present of how Ozzfest began and continues to operate. The interviews included stories from the bands, staff, fans, and the Osbournes of course.

After watching the performances, you can pretty much pick out the bands that played the second stage, and which one's were on the main stage. The second stage acts are more raw, furious, and heavy, whereas the main stage acts are more refined and on top of their game. Bonuses include brief interviews with Ozzy, Jack, Slash, Zakk, and Wicked Wisdom. These interviews are most likely outtakes from their main program ones. Also a part of the bonus section is performances from Alterbridge, Mad Capsule Markets, and Bowling for Soup. If you don't have time to watch the DVD, you can take the included live CD to play in the car. It doesn't have all of the performances, but you won't miss the ones they took out.

    The Bad
Who invited Wicked Wisdom and Bowling for Soup to Ozzfest? I doubt that this DVD is worth more than one or two spins in your DVD player. You can listen to the live performances on the CD, and interviews and the like are only worth one play anyway. Also, when you promote something as an `anniversary' feature, shouldn't it chronicle the complete history of the event, not just the last show? Oh yeah, I wonder if leaving Iron Maiden out of the disc was intentional (that's sarcasm people). They only carried the majority of the tour when Ozzy's voice went kaput. I was sadden to hear that Ozzy's performance was not the only bad one either, Rob Zombie was way off (not usual for him).

    The Verdict
I think I made my points in the statements above. The performances are good, but only for one or two viewings. The documentary footage is informative, but it's not enough to draw me back to this DVD. One particular performance is conveniently missing, and most of the performers are not very well known. When I think of an anniversary collection, I think of the complete history, not just the current year.

3 out of 5 stars More about what is missing, but still a decent DVD   January 17, 2006

Yes, I know and agree with everyone that this could and should have been a better DVD in terms of performance footage. I'm not going to dwell on that at all though. The omissions are really not explainable, but that isn't the DVD. I'll focus on what actually is here.

The interviews are actually really entertaining. Some of the stories from Ozzfest past are great (footage would have been nice, but oh well). Hell...I crave more from some of the interviews. Ozzy, Sharon & Jack are inciteful about Ozzfest's history, but the stories from the other artists are what makes it really entertaining. And not for nothing, but there is too much interview footage from Slash and HIM, and even Anthrax, who really aren't a part of Ozzfest history.

The performances are hit and miss. The picture and actual production is top notch. There is no doubt about that. Particularly during Rob Zombie's performances...it is spot on. Just an FYI...Alter Bridge, Mad Capsule Markets & Bowling For Soup are not on the main program...only the bonus features (though they are on the CD where some of the bands on the DVD are not). HIM & Anthrax, despite never having played a US Ozzfest, are part of the main feature (a whole chapter is devoted to HIM...that was frustrating). The UK footage is decent, but the Camden footage is a little bit more indicative of what an Ozzfest is about. The Haunted, Soilwork, and Zombie are the best of the bunch from Camden (It Dies Today sounds awful, A Dozen Furies look tired, Gizmachi gets cut midway, and Wicked Wisdom shows why they got a negative reaction). The UK footage is actually decent...it doesn't have the "Ozzfest feel", but the footage is really solid.

In terms of production quality and such, this is excellent. In terms of content, it is hit and miss. There are a few great moments, and a few not so great moments. It could have been so much superior than it is, but its worth at least one look.

This is NOT a good retrospective on Ozzfest. It even gives it a bad name! If I were to make this DVD, I would:

    1. add footage from the previous Ozzfests, from the first one in 1996 to 2005
    2. if not that, give it a more appropriate title without the anniversary part in it
    3. add the WHOLE 2005 lineup to it. this includes Iron Maiden and Black Label Society, Ozzy.
    4. take out the Bowling For Soup sets. give me a break here! they're a joke and NEVER played Ozzfest

What a joke for a anniversary set. Well, I guess Ozzfest will sink down to its own demise while Sounds of the Underground, Gigantour, and Wacken will make their way up. Shame on you, Ozzy.

I went to Ozzfest this year and it was incredible... however, this DVD is not even a shadow of what Ozzfest really was. A LOT of the bands that made it incredible are missing. First of all, there's no Iron Maiden (but i knew they would leave it out). There's no In Flames, no Shadows Fall, no Arch Enemy. Even though Anthrax and HIM are awesome bands, they were not part of the tour. I love Black Sabbath, but it would've been great if they included other songs instead of the same tired War Pigs, Paranoid and Iron Man. So many songs to pick from to put these.
And please, Bowling For Soup??? The Mad Capsule Markets??? Alter Bridge??? WTF??? What the hell is that??? So many GREAT bands on the tour, to fill this DVD with this crap! No thanx!
At least they included The Haunted, Trivium and Soilwork.
