5 out of 5 stars Like the Heavy Left-Handed And Candid dvd, but done a lot better.   November 23, 2005

After reading the details of this dvd, I thought it would be sorta like a "Heavy Left-Handed And Candid 2." To my amazement, this turned out to be much more. Only into the band's 2nd year of being signed to Roadrunner Records, it's very convenient to have a new Cradle Of Filth dvd out now. The live audio is near perfect with the performance not lacking much of anything. The style of how the concert was filmed is pretty similar to Heavy Left-Handed, which is not a big deal. It's just what you'd like to see if you were there at the show. You get a 90+ minute live performance filmed in Paris, a new "shockumentary" featuring segments from studio footage during the making of Nymphetamine, the band on tour, orchestra recordings for Damnation And A Day, and a lot more. Plus all the band's best videos: Her Ghost In The Fog, No Time To Cry, A Promise of Fever, Manniquin, Babylon A.D., and Nymphetamine. Also look out for special guests such as Bam Margera, Adam Dutkiewicz from Killswitch Engage, and producer/Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano. This dvd is a must-have if you're a fan.

Look for the band's new album to be released in 2006.

5 out of 5 stars ANOTHER FANTASTIC FILTH DVD!!! AAAA+++!!!!!   January 20, 2006

I have been a BIG Cradle Fan for well over 10 years, I definately AGREE with alot of the previous reviews about the concert being FANTASTIC!! (GREAT set-list/both old and New songs!!)Cradle have a really TERRIFIC stageshow and their sound production on the concert was Crystal Clear!!I think the part I enjoyed the most were the EXTRA'S!!!( You literally get an arsenal of Music videos from the band!!)EXAMPLE: 1)"Her Ghost In The Fog"(MY PERSONAL FAVORITE VIDEO AND A CLASSIC!) 2)"No Time To Cry" 3)"Promise Of Fever" 4)"Babylon A.D." 5)Nymphetamine"(GREAT VIDEO!!)6)"Manniquin" plus the behind the scenes footage is both interesting and Funny at the same time! This band is ABSOLUTELY HUGE overseas and I really hope one day to see them become that way here in the U.S.(They really deserve it!) This much talent should both be seen and heard on a much larger audience scale!!!I would like to also make note of the fact that I personally have NOT experienced ANY problems with the visual aspect of this DVD! (I think it looks and sounds great!)In my opinion this DVD is just as good if not better in ALOT of ways from the previous DVD's.If you have never seen the band live or any of thier great music videos this is definately a GREAT place to start! Long Time fans of The Filth will definately enjoy hearing the older tracks played live!!A Good example Is: "The Forest Whispers My Name", "Black Goddess Rises", "A Gothic Romance"(I LOVE THIS TRACK!! A TRUE FILTH CLASSIC!!)and the Absolutely AWSOME "13 Autums And A Widow"!!!The Newer live tracks are amazing too!!Example:"Nymphetamine", "Nemesis" and "From The Cradle To Enslave" plus many more!! Please don't just take my word for it , pick this DVD up and give it a try and I have a good feeling you will NOT be dissapointed!!Plus don't forget to check out the Bands other DVD's too!!EXAMPLE: "Heavy Left Handed and Candid" and "PanDaemonAeon" LONG LIVE METAL!! AND KEEP SPREADING THE FILTH!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Cradle of Fun   June 7, 2006

I haven't gotten to finish watching Peace Through Superior Firepower but partly that's because there's so much stuff on it. It has a full live concert, a full collection of their videos, a documentary piece that was just hilarious, a photo gallery, web-links, and more. Money well spent.

There are a number of high points. One of them is the inclusion of the video for their cover of The Sisters of Mercy's "No Time to Cry." The video is both haunting and lovely, and even has footage of nuns making out. It's the complete package. I think the version, itself, is brilliant. It does what I think any good cover song does. It is both unmistakeably CoF and unmistakeably still the original song. It was also cool to have the video for "Her Ghost in the Fog," one of my favorite CoF tracks, included.

Since I didn't see them on their last tour, it was also great to catch up with their live show. No big suprises, but they did add some new acrobatic routines (yes, I'm serious) to their show. I was a little disappointed that they chose to do the single version of "Nymphetamine" instead of the much longer album version. Also, I suspect they sweetened the mix quite a bit. That's allowed, of course, but it's noticeable, which is bad.

The documentary was called a "shockumentary" on the DVD menu, and they weren't kidding. Within five minutes of the beginning, you've already seen a guy skateboarding naked and groupies engaged in oral sex with each other. Things only go downhill in this video chock full of explosions, dude's french kissing each other, fox urine used as beverage, and way too much drinking. Revolting and hilarious.

At the other end of the scale was an interesting look at the Budapest Symphony recording some music for their Damnation and a Day album. Some interview footage with Dani Filth also gives viewers a quick peek into what appears to be his home, which includes what appears to be a life-sized replica of King Tut's golden sarcophagus next to a scarab beetle specimen case. Also of note is footage of Doug Bradley of Hellraiser fame doing one of his many voice-overs for the band. You actually don't see Doug, (maybe he wouldn't sign a release) but you get to hear the raw version of the voice-over. It makes for an interesting comparison with the effects-laden version that appeared on the album.

    First the good:
This DvD is quite a value for the $, the live paris set list is exceptional and really gives a "best of..." style look at the band. The behind the scenes footage, like in "heavy, left handed, and candid" is funny as hell like always. Also, the production is simply joygasmic, plug this DvD into Surround Sound and you'll feel like your right there in the pit. Finally, the music videos and web extras are sweet too; who can complain for $20. Well, me b/c I'm pompus :)

    Now, for the bad:
This is going to sound pretentious, but the DvD is way overproduced. Did anyone else notice that Dani's lips are not in time with the words that are coming out of his mouth during the Paris footage and neither is the guitar playing? What your getting with "...superior firepower," is a combination of the live tracks from the show and what appears to be a studio engineered(and probably re-recorded) mixed down, mastered, and then edited version ment to appear as though it is a live concert. Don't get me wrong, most live albums aren't totally live (bands ussually re-record tracks to thicken up the sound), but this is painfully obvious. With all due respect, we are Cradle of f*cking Filth fans, we can deal with a few bad notes, it adds intimacy to the experience. Don't insult your audience by sterilizing your performances for video, we want the good, the badass, and the always ugly. There is also a recurring sense of overcommercialization permeating the video, which is unfortunate because Cradle is currently and always has been a band that puts music over commercialism. What the heck is Bam Margera doing opening the behind the scenes footage?

    Bottom Line:
This is a value for $20, but think of it as a Cradle of Filth movie and not a true concert recording or behind the scenes look at the band, it isnt. Gotta say, I like "Heavy, Left handed, & Candid" a good bit better. Anyway, long live the Filth.

5 out of 5 stars great dvd   November 25, 2005

ive been waiting a long time to see something new from this band on tape seeing how they dont come thru the states alot. finally we have "Peace Through Superior Firepower". i am a fan of both the "old" music and the newer stuff they put out and i was more than happy about there set list. and much like there "Heavy left handed and candid" dvd they covered every album except for Bitter Suites on this dvd. Black Goddess Rises from "Principle" and TBGR is one of my favorite songs of theres. "The Forest Whispers my Name" from Vempire. A Gothic Romance from Dusk (i cant believe they played that song). 13 Autumns and a Widow from Cruelty (at one point in the song Dani loses pace with the music and waves his hands around). Cradle to Enslave" Tortured Soul Assylum from Midian. a few from Damnation and a few from Nymphetamine. so basically you have a little of all cradle stages and of coarse there are the girls doing crazy stuff on stage along with gargoyles and there is some crazy looking skywalker in there too. the live footage itself was unreal and the setlist was well worth the money but then there are extras. you get some videos like, Nymphetamine, Her Ghost in the Fog, Mannequin and others. there is some footage of there cd signing at a Virgin Records store and yet another Shockumentary. the begining was a little stupid because it was 5 or so minutes of Bam Margera and it kinda annoys me to see him in a Cradle dvd so whatever. the footage is Cradle on tour and the making of Nymphetamine and Damnation and a Day. well worth the money, and also for you Filthy fans, Cradle is putting out there 12th cd out in 2006! make sure you look out for that
