Amazon.com Dokken: Unchain the Night includes a cluster of music videos augmented by footage of the heavy metal group on tour a couple decades back, all of which comprised the band's 1986 home video, Unchain the Night. There's also a handful of extra videos and an entertaining, 2006 interview with Don Dokken and Mick Brown as they recall funny anecdotes from glory days. In fact, almost everything about the 1986 production, including the music performances and videos, is obsessed with touring: the sacrifices, the loneliness, the madness of it all. There are exceptions, such as "Into the Fire," with its wintry, romantic look, but most of what's here is more like the unsettling "The Hunter," which presents the image of a touring rocker as a lone wolf, looking for sanctuary but dogged and captured by malevolent forces. "Break the Chains" is partially shot in a crazy, long hallway with the band banging into lanterns, but then weirdly includes the super-imposed image of a girl quoting from a letter the song denounces as insincere. "Alone Again" is another of those between-gigs visions of woeful isolation on the road. It all would be wearing if it weren't for the obvious wit and intelligence of Dokken and Brown, both then and now. New videos include the interesting "Heaven Sent," which has a certain dream logic to it. --Tom Keogh

Nice transfer to DVD, with bonus features March 14, 2007 Concerned One (Clarinda, IA) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
If you are a fan of 80's metal, then Dokken was probably near the top of your list. This is a great DVD of thier home video release Unchain The Night, a long time coming, and worth the wait. This contains the original 7 videos Into the fire, Just got luck, breaking the chains, alone again, the hunter, In My Dreams, and It's not Love sandwiched between goofy shots of the band behind the scenes. Bonus videos include Walk Away, Dream Warriors, Heaven Sent, and Burning Like A Flame, all surrounded by intro's from Don Dokken and Mick Brown. Also their is a 30 minute video of Don and Mick reminiscing about the Video, the past, and what the future holds for dokken. The quality of transfer is good, and well worth the investment for 80's fans. Sure, the style of big hair and spandex is dated, but the songs remain great.
Rockin' with Dokken!! April 23, 2007 J. Barksdale (Coral Springs, Fl United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I stumbled across this DVD at Walmart and was in complete shock that it had finally been released in this format. I had this video back in "the day" and absolutely loved it! Forgot what a funny guy Jeff Pilson is. Some of his dialogue in this DVD is hilarious! Great videos, soundbites and interviews from the 80's, along with bonus videos for the DVD release. The new videos include "Walk Away," "Dream Warriors," "Heaven Sent," and "Burning Like A Flame" with "informative intros./commentaries" before each new video by Don Dokken and Mick Brown. There are also new interviews with Don and Mick which make this release even better! Kudos to Rhino and Dokken for taking the time to put this together. Dokken has always had a strong FANBASE and this is an absolute STEAL for under $10.00. I would have paid a lot more. Great memories!
Remember when videos were played on TV? April 9, 2007 Mary M. Thumm (Upstate NY, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Okay, I have to admit, I was a late teen when MTV came on the scene, and I remember seeing some of the videos on this DVD then. But to have them on one DVD, is nice. If you are a Dokken fan, like I am it's "Heaven Sent".
The best part of this DVD, is the added interviews with Don and Wild Mick, and the videos that did not make regular MTV rotation. Without giving too much away, they tell their recollections of making the particular videos, and some of the stories will make you laugh or cry.

Being a big fan of Dokken and hair metal, this was a definite buy.I purchased it at a great price,of course at Amazon. If you love Dokken, you know the tunes and the videos. "Alone Again","In My Dreams","Just Got Lucky","Dream Warriors" are all here plus the other great songs.Great commentary on the four songs by Don & Mick. Glad to see Mick still with Dokken and the new album coming out this year. Too bad Lynch couldn't get in good graces, but what the heck.Highly recommended to the die hard Dokken fans and just hair metal lovers out there.
