5 out of 5 stars One of the greatest dvd's I have ever bought   July 18, 2004

When a band puts out a dvd maybe they put out a live album and then have music videos and a documentary. Yet cof being as much as perfectionists as they are they felt the need to mix it all into one great dvd. Now this could have been put together, and been to much and just randomly thrown together. No. It is perfectly formed, easy to find all the features. I will label the features and my opinions on below.

    eleven burial masses (live section)

I have never had the pleasure to see cof live and with dani's style of vocals I wasn't sure if he would be able to do well. Hell was I wrong. Cradle of filth is one of thee best lvie acts I have ever seen. Track listing below:

Lord Abortion, Ebony Dressed for Sunset, The Forest Whispers My Name, Cthulhu Dawn, Dusk and Her Embrace, The Principle of Evil Made Flesh, Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids, Her Ghost Is in the Fog, Summer Dying Fast, From the Cradle to Enslave, Queen of Winter Throned

They seemed to favor old material and Midian with the choosen love sings, which sucks because dusk and her embrace and cruelty and the beast are my favorite cof albums. Yet still incredible. None the less.

Sifting through filth ( a shockumentary) Running at about 58min This is a disturbing interesting and humerous Look at cradle of filth and there off stage antics.

Scorched Earth erotica (nasty version) One of my favorite songs but not the best video for this song.

Scorched earth erotica (very nasty version) now this is the best video for scorched earth erotica quite enjoyable to watch.

Born in a burial gown (sub version - supposed to have "new" special effects but i cant really see it. Still an enjoyable and well directed video.

The blair twit project - Interesting to watch once or twice but pretty much the band running in the forest being stupid.

Cradle of fear (movie trailor) - trailor for the b-side horror movie dani filth stars in, sure its cheesy but i enjoy it. The trailor is exspecially good because in the background you hear my favorite cof song playing "suicide and other comforts"

Circus of horrors - Quite interesting not for the weak stomached

Gallery of the grotesque pretty much just web lnks downloads and pics.

In conclusion I can NOT praise this dvd enough. If you love cof and do not own this album BUY THIS as soon as possible, you will love it, Enjoy.

    5 out of 5 stars Heavy, Left-Handed & Candid Is One Filth-y DVD! :-)   January 20, 2002

I purchased this DVD very shortly after it was released from Cradle's site and got one of the autographed copies. After waiting a good four and a half weeks for it, it finally arrived. So obviously, I watched it the very night I got it. Running a good 160 minutes, here's what I thought of it...

The first portion is a small introduction from Dani himself, which then goes into the concert portion. An excellent set list is presented featuring "Lord Abortion," "Ebony Dressed For Sunset," "The Forest Whispers My Name," "Cthulhu Dawn," "Dusk and Her Embrace," "The Principle of Evil Made Flesh," "Cruelty Brought Thee Orchids," "Her Ghost in the Fog," "Summer Dying Fast," "From the Cradle to Enslave," and "Queen of Winter, Throned." The picture quality is fabulous on it and camera work is very well done. I'm impressed with it, what more can I say?

The extras are very entertaining indeed. First is a "schlockumentary" which basically features the clips from the tour, the band bullshxting around, and some other cool stuff (don't want to ruin it or anything.) It's just not the in-depth biography you should expect, but it's good for some laughs and behind-the-scenes-type stuff. Next is the "Scorched Earth Erotica" promo videos, both the Nasty and Very Nasty versions. Again, I'm not going to ruin them, but they're pretty decent. The "Born in a Burial Gown" video is included as well, which has some excellent effects in it. Next is "The Blair Twit Project" that's rather humorus in itself as well. The "Cradle of Fear" trailer is also included, with a small creature feature and DVD-ROM weblinks.

Overall, it's definitely worth the money if you're a Cradle of Filth fan. If you aren't, I'm not promising a single thing. There's not much more that can be said about it.

5 out of 5 stars Heavy Left Handed and Candid..BEST Cradle DVD!   March 22, 2004
    Death Bringer (Kelso, WA)

The DVD opens up with (and mostly contains in the title screens) bits and pieces from the song "Dinner at Deviant's Palace."
The first thing I watched on this DVD upon purchasing it (today) was the shockumentary, a 58 minute documentary/interview on Cradle of Filth, and their 2001 tour in Austrailia and Japan. That plus it contains a bit of in studio footage of them working on songs from the Midian album. Those things plus many many laughs along the way of various band members eating disgusting objects and being paid for it...it's all in good humor, and is guarinteed to make you laugh at not only Dani, but the entire band as well. The shockumentary itself, gets a 10/10 in my score book!
Moving on, we have the 2 ("Nasty" and "Very Nasty") versions of the "Scorched Earth Erotica" music video, a track from Bitter Suites to Succubi. The 2 differ greatly, as the "Nasty" version, is..well, as Dani says, "The MTV friendly version." Thus, it's quite edited, lyrically no, but in terms of scenes used in the music video, yes. The music videos are compiled up of scenes from the movie Cradle of Fear, and all the non-violent ones were chosen for "Nasty" and all the hardcore violence was given to "Very Nasty." Not much else to say about these 2, because the song remains the same. If you like the song, you'll love the music videos, or atleast the VERY NASTY version of the two. Either way, both give a good look at the masterpiece movie that is, Cradle of Fear. Song and video get 10/10.
Next, we have the music video for "Born in a Burial Gown" which, is basically no different from the way it's been seen on tv, except Dani claims theirs "new special affects at the end" but it's no different from what i've seen on TV. I'm only guessing there's 2 versions of this music video, but i'm not sure on that one. Either way, this is a good video, and an excellent song by Cradle of Filth. Song and video are 10/10.
After those 2, we have something called "The Blair Twit Project: Absinthe Fiend Footage" which is basically a remake of the terrible atrocity that was "The Blair Witch Project." It features Dani and crew walking through a forest, most obviously making it known, this is just a parody ment to be shown how bad this movie really was. The camera they're using has a green Absinthe colored light on it, hence the mini-movie's subtitle. They basically are walking through a forest, and stealing road signs..that's all i'm getting out of this, other than that, it really serves no point. "Dinner at Deviant's Palace" is playing through the entire thing, about 3 times. This..gets an 8/10 because I just don't f**king understand what it's getting at!
After that, we're introduced to a basic formal trailer for the movie Cradle of Fear. The trailer is okay, but there's nothing better than the movie itself. Well..this feature is just a trailer for the movie, so there's no need for details. The trailer gets a 9/10, because the trailer with the song "Lord Abortion" in the background, is better.
One of the final things on this portion of the DVD is the "Circus of Horrors" feature, which showcases a bunch of people showcasing their odd grotesque talents, many of which might disturb any normal person. This feature gets a 10/10, because it's just downright freaky!
Well despite the art gallery, which really is nothing worth even talking about, there's the live concert!
The live concert, not much to say, it's 11 tracks of ear candy, gone live and visual. If you've got "Live Bait for the Dead" you needn't get this DVD, and if you do, get it for its special features. The concert on this DVD, is the same as the track listing and the exact same performancing, as on the "Live Bait for the Dead" album. The tracks contain the below..

    1. Lord Abortion 10/10
    2. Ebony Dressed for Sunset 10/10
    3. The Forest Whispers my Name 10/10
    4. Cthulhu Dawn 10/10
    5. Dusk and Her Embrace 11/10 (really good)
    6. The Principle of Evil Made Flesh 10/10
    7. Cruelty Brought thee Orchids 10/10
    8. Her Ghost in the Fog 11/10 (really good)
    9. Summer Dying Fast 11/10 (really good)
    10. From the Cradle to Enslave 15/10 (extremely good)
    11. Queen of Winter, Throned. 9/10 (missing its intro)

all of which appear on "Live Bait for the Dead." The only difference between the two is the Intro, and the Interlude, both which are still on the DVD but not on the track list, and the second difference is the fact that LBFTD has a bonus disc 2 to it, whereas this DVD is 1 disc.
All in all, this is the BEST actual Cradle of Filth DVD there is, if there's bonus secret material, please (any reviewer) post it if you will.

4 out of 5 stars Excellent music DVD   March 12, 2003
    Sinisterfiend (The Master Of Horror)

Excellent Sound, Excellent Picture, Tons and Tons of songs. Love the Scorched Earth Erotic video. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is because I don't think they let their female singer sing enough, it adds a nice goth touch. I also did not give it five stars because it would have been nice to have the "her ghost in the fog" video on here, and finally I thin Dani could have done better on some parts of the songs. For example: On "her ghost in the fog" (live version), he chooses to growl in that typical death metal voice, instead of talking in the deep gothic voice like he does on the album. By using this growly voice, I think he is cheese'n off some of the songs best parts. Anyway, these are minor gripes and this is a must have DVD, so definitely BUY IT!...

5 out of 5 stars sweet stuff here   December 28, 2001

I got the autographed edition, and Cradle of Filth is my favorite band, so I guess I'm pretty...biased, but still I'd like my say on this...

Obviously, they put a lot of work in trying to make the look and feel of the concert they recorded as atmospheric as they possibly could. The images, for as far as I paid attention, stroked perfectly with what was played. The whole thing looked very energetic and real to me. I have definately enjoyed this part.

The documentary is a load of bollocks, but in a good way. It's just not the thing if you were looking for deep insightfull info into the lives of the bandmembers.

The videoclips are.. Cradle of Filth. I can't really put it differently. Their way with B-movie splatterhorror must appeal to you, otherwise you'll be thoroughly unimpressed. I personally love what they do and don't think they've made a single bad song so far, but I can easily see how you'd disagree.

In short, take the whole thing (except the live-footage) with a grain of salt, as I think the band itself does, and you'll pee yourself laughing. :)
