Product Description Movie DVD
Amazon.com Released more than a decade past its peak in popularity, Pearl Jam proves it still has what it takes to captivate an audience with the concert film Immagine in Cornice. Culled from footage taken throughout the band's 2006 tour of Italy, the film captures the preternaturally youthful Eddie Vedder mesmerizing audiences with his full, rich voice. One of grunge music's defining bands, Pearl Jam continues to produce new music but isn't afraid to rest on its laurels. Unlike some groups that refuse to perform "oldies" for their fans, this DVD shows that fans are treated to hits such as "Alive," "Even Flow," and "Better Man," as well as an incendiary cover of their buddy Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World." Directed by Danny Clinch, who exhibits a keen eye for capturing a live concert experience, Immagine offers peeks backstage, as well as moments that are both charming and calculated, such as Vedder learning to speak a few Italian phrases to win over the crowd (Not that the fans needed to be won over). There are a handful of groups that can play sold-out venues without having a record at the top of the charts, and Pearl Jam--an incredibly seasoned live band--is one of them. The songs sound crisp and the musicians (guitarists Stone Gossard and Mike McCready, bassist Jeff Ament, drummer Matt Cameron, organist Boom Gaspar) look as though they are having the time of their lives. While not as compelling as Jim Jarmusch's "Year of the Horse," which documented Neil Young's 1996 tour of the same name, Immagine in Cornice is a thoughtful look at a thought-provoking and still relevant band. --Jae-Ha Kim

Not your usual Pearl Jam bootleg October 2, 2007 Erico Macedo (Ft Lauderdale, FL) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
There is little doubt that Pearl Jam is one of the best live rock bands in the planet, as anyone can confirm by listening to any of the 150+ live bootlegs they released in the past few years. 'Immagine in Cornice' is actually a documentary about the band's tour of Italy. It does a great job showing the backstage activities, together with commentaries and interviews with the band. However, the music is still the most important part, with superb performances of new songs and old classics. It also helps that the italian audience is very enthusiastic - they really make the concerts even better to watch. Another highlight of this DVD is the picture quality and cinematography. Although the DVD is not Hi-Def, everything was shot in Hi-Def and it pays off - the picture quality is stunning. You will not be disappointed.
Spectacular DVD Immagine that October 3, 2007 J. D. Estrada 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
If you're a Pearl Jam fan, you need this DVD, period. If you're a casual Pearl Jam fan, you can see this DVD with fresh eyes and take in one extremely interesting take on one of the five best live bands in the last 40 years. This is an in depth look into my favorite band yes, but it also delivers some extremely memorable vignettes and performances that will more than satisfy the viewer. At first glance I thought the DVD was kind of short since most Pearl Jam concerts don't go below 25 or 26 songs or 2 and a half hours of play. That being said, you need to know that this is a hybrid documentary, in depth look, concert film shot with great dedication, talent and love. If you've ever wanted to see a top view of the band during its performance, you're going to get it. if you've ever wanted to see how they determine a set list, you will see it and if you've ever wanted to watch a DVD dripping with energy and passion, this is your ticket to ride. The bonus extras are also quite a delicious nugget if you're a PJ fan having three things most fans look for. An Eddie solo. A collaboration with the opening band, in this case My Morning Jacket in an ultra solid version of a Who Classic, and one of their epic closers for good measure. Some people have mentioned different high lights for this DVD and I'm no different because when you're a fan of this band, it's a personal love you feel for certain songs. Mine were Alive, Porch, Come Back and Blood. I'd never seen Blood live before and seeing it on this DVD made my blood tingle since Eddie shreds his vocal chords most AC/DC like. From the vignettes I especially enjoyed Jeff's sessions and Boom Gaspar's clip. Lastly, the editing though a bit frantic works EXTREMELY well and you get to see all members showcase their talents and much to my delight, Jeff Ament's licks look as solid as ever since I think he's way underrated as a bassist and this DVD shows why he's a great one. In reality I could go on and on, but you'd be better to just buy this DVD. Trust me, if you like Pearl Jam... scratch that... if you like rock and roll, you should definitely include this DVD in your collection.

In a word, this DVD is "perfect"... the song list is simply awesome and the performances are top notch! Video quality is superb on HD tv's... you could swear it's from an HD source... even coming from a standard DVD. Short video sequences of Italy are breathtaking, even romantic. DVD packaging is definitely what you'd come to expect from PJ. If you were to choose from one of the several PJ DVD's out there, this would be your best choice. I loved it... probably PJ's best DVD out there... to date.
