I bought this DVD recently and I must say: NOT IMPRESSED.
There is so little video footage of Whitesnake in the market, so when you are a fan you get your hands on anything that comes out, but this doesn't mean it's going to be good. I can forgive this because I am a big fan of Whitesnake, but for someone who don't know very much from this band and have great expectatios from this material: it's a waist of their money.
This DVD is a documentary, which centers on the band at the early and mid 80's. Basically explains the transition of Whitesnake from all this Deep Purple tradition. From a hard rock and blues band they were in the 70's and early 80's the band needs to adapt to a much more metal and glam wave that was taking over, at the time they made "Slide it in". This record sets up Whitesnake for the 1987 album which conquers America and explodes commercially.
It has good interviews and anecdotes with Neil Murray and also with people from the music industry. Surprisingly there are no interviews or commentaries from David Coverdale, the most wanted figure of the band. There are some recorded interviews from John Sykes but the sound is awful and it's impossible to understand what he is saying, so I don't see the point of using this material. There are cuts of Whitesnake live performances but they are not complete, I don't understand why they didn't use the whole version of all this stuff. They could also have included the videos that the band did at that time on MTV.
Personally I think you could do anything with a DVD and for me this material is incomplete, it's a mediocre piece which for me it's OK because I like this sort of stuff but "it could be a thousand times better".
