Amazon.com STRAIGHT OUTTA PUERTO RICO charts the rise of Reggaeton, that galvanized the Puerto Rican economy and became an unstoppable force in urban music scenes around the world. It explores the DIY youth quake that started in house parties and on the streets of San Juan; of rappers influenced by New York hip-hop, rhyming to sampled salsa and dancehall beats, recording their creations and selling thousands of units from the trunks of their cars. The film includes interviews with Reggaeton pioneers DJ Negro and DJ Playero, who produced and distributed the most influential early artists of the genre, Vico C, the Eminem of early Reggaeton, and international stars Daddy Yankee and The Luny Tunes, among many others.

| Customer Reviews: Not worth to buy February 8, 2010 P. Bayona Bought this video expecting to see alot more. Thought it was similar to a movie, but it more felt like the news. Don't know if it worth to buy and keep in your collection. Maybe a rental would be more suitable.
Fun, informative, good music...obviously. February 6, 2009 Emily G (Boston, MA USA) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This documentary is a lot more factual (full of information) than I expected. I also loved seeing the barrios where many of the reggaeton artists grew up. I've liked reggaeton for a while but it convinced me that I HAVE to actually go to PR to experience it -- I was up until the wee hours of the morning yesterday brainstorming places to stay, flights, etc. for an upcoming trip!
