    Editorial Reviews:

Firecracker picks up right where Loeb's 1995 debut Tails left off, mixing relentlessly upbeat pop numbers with moody ballads tied together with her innate sense for a memorable melody. Firecracker starts particularly strong: A thumping bass line propels the rhythmic "I Do," lush string arrangements swoon behind "Falling in Love," "Truthfully" posesses the same kind of simple pop grace that made her 1994 song "Stay" a huge hit, and "Let's Forget About It" is probably the most instantly catchy song of the bunch. The rest of the record doesn't quite keep up that pace, but overall Firecracker shows Loeb clearly avoiding the "sophomore slump" curse. --Peter Blackstock

    4 out of 5 stars FIRECRACKER   March 19, 2004

I don't know of a more beautiful song than Lisa Loeb's 'How'. It is perfect, brilliant and captivating. I love every inch of it. "Firecracker" is Lisa's second album and it does a great job. Some of the songs I don't see fit for this album but most of the songs do the CD justice. I love Lisa's vocals and acoustic sound. The opener 'I Do' is also an amazing song, especially for an opener.

i find that for many of the major and not so major events in my life, there is a song in lisa's repetoir to empathize with me. i'll catch a phrase i accidentally hear and it'll raise my eyebrow. i lent "tails" to a friend who was going through some difficult times, and when he returned it to me finnally, he told me that through this album, no person had ever gotten so deep inside and understood him as i did. i was taken aback by this and gained a lot more admiration for lisa. so thankful was i, that i bought "firecracker" and sat in amazement as she described my life in song. again, i lent lisa's music to my friend, and again, he was thankful beyond words that there was such a thing as someone understanding him...and even more importantly, caring for him. lisa is a very special person, in that her music and her words strike a sensative chord in my life. the ripple effect that it gives is a wonderous thing to watch. for that, i thank her.

4 out of 5 stars Frame the cover...   September 16, 2000

Not as strong a her first cd but still a very good album. She switches things around a bit here and explores some new and different styles with her songs and for the most part they work really well. It wasn't the sales success Tails was due to lack of a major hit single which is shame since it's a really worthwhile listen. If you haven't yet heard Tails i reccomend trying that first, and if you enjoyed it then dfinitely grab this as you will enjoy it also.

4 out of 5 stars The cute chick with glasses can write terrific songs   June 6, 2002

My only knowledge of Lisa Loeb a few weeks ago was that I had seen a cable interview of her. Glasses to me are a turn on with the right person, but that's all I knew of her. So when I see this CD at a garage sale, with this "just been boinked" look on the cover, it was certainly worth giving it a try. This collection of songs is currently number one as new find of the year for me.

What she does is probably my favorite kind of music. I like the singer-songwriter combination, because you can see exactly what the writer had in mind. Just give me a table in a small club, and the performer with a guitar, and I'm set for the evening.

Of course, the songs have to work for it to work. The most important component in music is the songwriting, and very few people have the talent. Ms. Loeb definately has the talent. Practically every song on the album has a hook that she grabs from several angles, and keeps working. That's the stuff that grabs your attention. Songs like "I Do" and "Truthfully" work this very well.

But she also shows a great amount of depth with songs like "Falling in Love". This story of how easy it is to fall for someone, but lines like "The time between meeting and finally leaving is sometimes called falling in love" shows a wisdom beyond her years. From what I can tell, her other works seem to be also quite good, and I promise myself to rise above garage sale level to seek out more works by this talented artist.

Just hope she doesn't switch to contact lenses.
