2 out of 5 stars I'm not gonna like this album just because it's Scarface   October 11, 2002
8 out of 21 found this review helpful

Everyone knows that this album Scarface released in 1997 is very, very weak, but no one will admit it. But there WERE some good moments like "Smartz" and "Smile", and the best track "Mary Jane". Speaking of which, if you thinks Ashanti's "Baby" is original, you're wrong. She took the entire structure (lyrical style, chorus style, production) of that song from "Mary Jane". Listen to it and you'll see.

The rest of the songs on this album are tired. And I don't mean they're not all that when compared to the aforementioned three; the songs really ARE tired. Dr. Dre drops a boring beat and `Face, Too $hort and Ice Cube drop boring rhymes in "Game Over" (which would've been a suitable title for this album), the title track is a contradiction, and dull two-minute tracks like "Southside" and "No Warning" are completely unnecessary.

This album is so disappointing I don't even know if `Face was being serious on here. The only reason to buy it is if you really want a complete Scarface collection (and I stress the word "really").

5 out of 5 stars Mr. Scarface's finest work to date   July 20, 2000
5 out of 7 found this review helpful

These days you'll find Scarface as the President of the newly formed Def Jam South, but while you wait for what seems to be his last solo CD, "The Last Of A Dying Breed", you should pick up his finest work to date, "The Untouchable". Five stars is not enough for this CD. Mr. Scarface got his name from the song, "Scarface" which was featured on his group, The Geto Boys' "Grip It On That Other Level" CD. On his first solo CD, Scarface had many classics, "Mr. Scarface", "Good Girl Gone Bad", "Body Snatchers" and my personal favorite "Money & The Power". After droppin' 2 more solo CDs, "The World Is Yours" and "The Diary" and other Geto Boys' CDs, "We Can't Be Stopped" and "Til Death Do Us Part", including one with and without Willie D, Scarface brought us "The Untouchable". After hearing the first single "Game Over" w/Dr. Dre, Ice Cube and Too Short, I knew this was going to be a tight CD. From beginning to end Scarface puts it down for the South. There isn't a song on this CD that you won't like. My personal favorites are "Ya Money Or Ya Life", "Smile" w/2 Pac, "Untouchable", "No Warning", "Mary Jane" and "Smartz". Lately, Scarface has showed up on Beanie Sigel's "Mac and Brad" and The Ruff Ryders' "WWIII". Hopefully, Scarface will pull a Too Short on us and make a CD, say he's going to retire and then come back. Nobody puts it down for the South like Mr. Scarface, Nobody!

3 out of 5 stars Scarface- The Untouchable   July 10, 2004
5 out of 10 found this review helpful

Southern rap legend Scarface's 4th album "The Untouchable" (1997) is a decent release. At just 12 tracks (excluding intro/outro) its a short one. After the intro, Scarface gets things going with the title track "Untouchable", like Face's lyrics and the chorus to this one. Face then delivers some grimey tracks with "No Warning", "Southside" and "Sunshine". The laidback "Money Makes the World Go Round" feat. Daz is a decent collab, with a Westcoast feel to it (that goes for the album as well). Another track that grabs my attention when listening to this one is "Mary Jane" a track which Scarface shines on, backed by a memorable beat and a first class chorus. My favourite track is "Smile" feat. 2pac and Johnnny P this is an excellent track, one that I never get tired of hearing. I like the albums last full length track "Game Over" feat. Dr.Dre, Ice Cube, Too $hort and disagree with those who call in boring, more likely to call it a hardcore banger, chorus to this one is deadly. I will agree that a few tracks just dont leave much of an impression, and on a short release like this one that can be a big setback. The two real standout tracks for me (and other reviewers it seems) are "Mary Jane" and "Smile", both of these can be found on his "Greatest Hits" album which is definetly a must buy for Scarface fans.

5 out of 5 stars He has done it again   December 11, 1999

Scarface is the real legend of rap. Who ever said Smile was the best song Scarface ever did is crazy. Smile is tight, but it don't come to the best song he ever did. No warning and The Game is over is the best tracks on the album. The whole album is tight. I am in college in Charlotte, and when I say Scarface is my favorite rapper, some people laugh. But when I say name one rapper that is better than him hardcore, everybody gets quiet. Once again, I think Scarface is the best thing out there. The Untouchable, The Diary, and The World is yours are classics. We love Scarface in DC.

5 out of 5 stars Big Homie devestates the enemy again   May 15, 2001
2 out of 3 found this review helpful

The Big Homie puts it down like the soundtrack to a war on the street in this album displaying his raw street power. Like a flashback, "Southside" brought memories of dead homies and old dirt I done did as I rolled through the streets of Southside Seattle dumpin' these beats on the street. Truly beats for the streets for a hardcore Gangster. "Untouchable" Speaks about the powerful will to live as a real Original Gangster in these streets. I awake to the sounds of homies screamin' at night...
