STOP! This is NOT what you are looking for. June 25, 2004 Gonzo (Richmond, Virginia United States) 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
This CD has a handful of the most horrid attrocities ever attemped to be called "music" that I have ever had the unfortunate priveledge of listening to. The first time I saw this movie, I was very young and enjoyed the soundtrack. I recieved the cd as a gift. THIS IS NOT THE MISSION IMPOSSIBLE SOUNDTRACK. It is Music from (COUGH like 3 songs COUGH) and music "inspired by" the film. Now incase you are wondering what kind of music this movie would be likely to "inspire" stop yourself right there and let me tell you the answer. GARBAGE. There is music on this cd that's so mind curdlingly horrid that it makes you want to take two pencils, stick them up your nose, and slam your head down on the desk.(!!!!) It's that bad. Get the REAL soundtrack. I hope you enjoyed my warning, now I have to pull these pencils out of my brain cavity.
Just awful... March 19, 2002 Jacob King (South Bend, IN) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Mission: Impossible is a great crowd-pleasing movie, and the original musical score is an active ingredient in its success. The same memorable music, and maybe some tunes "inspired from the motion picture" is what I expected to hear upon purchase. Boy, was I WRONG.We have two versions of the theme song included: the heavy metal adaptation played with the end credits, and a bizarre version entitled "Mission Accomplished," which is nowhere to be found in the movie. WHERE IS THE ORIGINAL VERSION?! The version played with the opening credits, the closest thing to the original theme, is not on this soundtrack. This is unacceptable. A few of the other tracks are from the movie, but they are either boring ("Claire," "Impossible Mission"), or severely altered from how they appear in the movie ("Trouble.") I wish studios would start to recognize that people buying these soundtracks expect to hear what they heard in the movie minus the dialogue and sound effects, not some "re-mixed" version that lacks the same spirit. And all of the other songs? The "inspired" tracks from other artists that make up the majority of this cd? They're all junk. Some people like to point out that "Dreams" by the Cranberries actually was in the movie. Even if you like this song, it is not worth the purchase of a whole CD. All of the other songs are bizarre, boring, slow-paced pieces, mostly by artists I have never heard of. How exactly did a thrilling movie like this "inspire" these lackadaisical songs? They're more depressing than anything else. This CD is absolutely bogus. Avoid it at all costs.

The songs on the whole were not bad but the only REALLY appealing one was of course the MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE theme song. I find the song " alright" by Casts quite addictive, while the rest weren't that fantastic( but 'Dreams" by Cranberries is worth looking forward, if you're able to figure out what connection it has to the movie). On the whole, it is not bad( with kinda catchy tunes), but the original soundtrack would definitely be a better choice compared to this.
Good Elfman Tracks July 27, 2005 Media Lover 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have to warn everbody, you would be much better off buying the original Elfman score, and not buying this version.
However, this CD is the one I got stuck with, and there are a few 5 star songs on the 3 star CD.
First of all, Main Theme, this is a great Techno/Remix version of the Mission Impossible Theme, definately a keeper.
Second, Impossible Mission, is a great, funky militaristic track. It features some cool synth, sweet percussion, and a very cool, atmospheric sounds.
Third, Claire. This is without a doubt one of the top five saddest most beautiful songs ever put on plastic. It rates as the best song on the album, an Elfman classic in the tradition of his Burton scores.
Fourth, Trouble, this is an awesome action song that reminds one of Men In Black. The strange whistling, percussion, brass, and trembling strings really pull you in to the action.
Fifth/Mission Accomplished, this is yet another main theme remix, very listenable, but not as good as the rest.
As for the rest of the album, don't even bother with it.

One track. Claire, Danny Elfman. Beautiful. Its one of Danny's best pieces (and yes, Ive heard damn near everything of his.) The rest is pretty good, but Claire is the only song I listen to over and over.
