4 out of 5 stars Good movie, better soundtrack.   October 10, 2005

Though I did like things about the film (Winona), I like everything about the music. And, I admit the tracklist is pretty typical, but that's also what makes it so good. It's classic rock. How can anyone not like an album full of Hendrix, CCR, Canned Heat, Zombies, Blind Faith, CSN, and more? If this disc doesn't make you feel like it's 1969, nothing will. In fact, I relate it to the times way more than the movie. It's hard not to. Give it a spin the next time you light up the insence.

    5 out of 5 stars '69 Was A Very Good Year   September 2, 2000

Good year for The Mets & movies & the music from those movies. I came across this bargain priced CD and was excited at such a mix of songs by various artists. Perfect party playing--especially if a themed 60's gathering! You know, candles, bean bag chairs, Japanese lanterns swaying a bit out of line & maybe some Boonesfarm wine!

I mean, Jimi Hendrix alone winding the zone in All Along The Watchtower gets you moving. Twelve other tracks twisting through some country to pop to rock just add to the "groovin". Cream with White Room....Goin' Up The Country by Canned Heat....Green River by CCR....Tuesday Afternoon by the Moody Blues and even a great to hear again Aquarius/Let The Sun Shine In by The Fifth Dimension. A great soundtrack compilation.

Excuse me--gotta go--am playing air guitar with Jimi!

2 out of 5 stars Mediocre album for a mediocre movie   June 19, 2004

1969 was the worst movie about the period that I have ever seen. Considering this movie was released in 1988, it focuses almost entirely on the vietnam war draft, and although that was the inspiration for much of the turbulence in the 60s, I felt the movie didn't capture any of its real brilliance. This was a movie about the 60s made by people who never experienced them, probably people close to Ronald Reagan. The album, along the same lines, is also worthless because it is full of cliched 60s jams, although the Canned Heat song is awesome. You are better off downloading these songs and burning them to CD, then writing "Lame 60s mix" on it with a Sharpie pen.
