Patrick Doyle's music is very lovely, relaxing and almost Mozartean in style.
Every selection on here is lovely, but the only reason this didn't get 5 stars, is my disappointment that it isn't exactly what was in the movie.
I sing opera, but I must say that Jane Eaglen's singing of the 2 songs, "The Dreame" and "Weep no more" are too affected sounding. And so heavy!! I wouldn't have picked a voice of her type for this kind of music (it's more like Kathleen Battle should've sung them!). I know it may sound silly, especially being a trained singer, but I would've preferred and expected to hear Kate Winslet's version that appeared in the movie. I thought her voice sounded like the sweet youthful voice of love and despite any imperfections, would've liked to have her version included here. My point being, if it's the movie soundtrack, why weren't the selections from the movie on this CD? They try to polish it up & make it more slick for publication & I'd rather hear the music the way it appeared in the movie...that's why I wanted the SOUNDTRACK! Because the music in the movie made me want to buy it.
Also I would've liked just the simple piano version of "My Father's Favorite" that appeared in the movie- no orchestra, just the sweet sound of the piano.
But don't let my rantings keep you from purchasing this. It is lovely to listen to, quite evocative and well worth getting. My objections are minor compared to the joy I've experienced listening to this CD.
Beautiful music by Patrick Doyle- sincerely, I think his music has genius and is above all, lovely!!!

I hope that soundtrack album producers will take note from all of us reviewers here, that when we buy a soundtrack, we are buying the music from the movie that we enjoyed so much. Jane Eaglen does, yes, have a beautiful operatic voice, but Marianne, in the movie, is not an opera singer and the style does not fit her character. It would have been perfect to have both, Kate Winslett's for the proper soundtrack, and Jane Eaglen's versions as alternate versions at the end. Then everybody would be happy. But, even though I was a bit disappointed in that fact, I still do love this album, and listen to it a lot. It is beautiful. And the booklet features an essay about the film, a paragraph about Jane Eaglen, photos from the movie, the lyrics from the two songs, and a short excerpt from Jane Austen's novel.

I've recently discovered that I adore Patrick Doyle's work. Whenever I find myself in a state of sublime enjoyment over a film's score, the chances are good that, as the credits roll, Patrick Doyle's name will appear! This soundtrack is truly gorgeous. However, I have to agree with the comments of an earlier reviewer; Jane Eaglen's voice is lovely, but a bit too "trained." I bought this album primarily for the song "Weep You No More Sad Fountains." It's such a stunning piece -- I couldn't get it out of my head! I was rather disappointed by this recording. Kate Winslet's voice in the film was a perfect character match for Marianne Dashwood -- charming, romantic, and naive. The mournful innocence of her two songs has been exchanged for a heavier, more sophisticated, operatic style. I wish that a different choice had been made.

This is a beautiful soundtrack, and it made me a Patrick Doyle fan. The harmonies are sophisticated, full, and evocative of the English countryside in which the movie takes place. I loved Jane Eagleton's version of "Weep You No More Sad Fountains" at the beginning of the soundtrack. All in all, just a gentle, pretty soundtrack!

This is a hauntingly beautiful soundtrack score: one of my favorites from any period movies out there...this is always my first choice when taking a relaxing bath or attempting to spend some mellow, quiet moments alone: it is gorgeous & wonderful!
The first track, the operatic "I Weep You No More Sad Fountains" by Jane Eaglen is sublime: it is followed by many instrumental & mellow tracks that follow the major plots of the storyline, and take turns delighting, tempting, soothing, etc. The final track, another operatic Jane Eaglen, "The Dreame" finishes the CD so beautifully.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who liked the film "Sense & Sensibility"...if you are looking for an opera CD, there are only two tracks on this one (although they are wonderful tracks): it is definitely more of an overall soundtrack score than opera, but is magnificent in its own right!
