5 out of 5 stars BEYONCE IS THE NEXT BIG STAR   May 5, 1999
10 out of 12 found this review helpful

I just love this CD. Aside from being cute as hell, Beyonce has got the one of the most beautiful, exotic and soulful voices in a long time. The best song on the album is the remake of the 1979 Commodore classic "Sail On", everytime I hear that one I just get absorbed into another world by the power/beauty of her voice. No No No parts 1 & 2 are excellent in being related from the start then taken in completely different directions. Illusion has the potential to just "drive" into your brain with a never ending rhythm. "With Me" has classic JD production along with P's remix. Destiny's Child has the right potential to take it to the full extreme, so does Beyonce if she ever goes solo.

4 out of 5 stars Good album, not enough songs   March 21, 2001

Yeah, this is the album when destiny's child were like "sisters" until their lil' incident in early 2000. Enough about them. This CD is enhanced which is also called a CD extra. Just pop it into your CD-ROM and see what happens. The songs starts off with a lovely ballad called "Second Nature". Next the hit & 2nd single called "No, No, No-Part 2" f/Wyclef Jean. This song was hot! The 3rd song was the 3rd single called "With Me-Part 1". The tack is called "Tell Me", it's such a beautiful song. You'll love the way how destiny's child blend in their voices. "Bridges" is like a jazz/club song, most likely you'll just listen to the beat. "No, No, No-Part 1", is the original version of the remix, I wasn't really feeling it. "With Me-Part 2 is hot! Basically cause Master P hooked it up with his rap & beat. "Show Me The Way", the intro is too dang long! I like the song though. "Killing Time" is also featured on the "Men In Black" soundtrack. Yes, Wyclef makes another appearance, on track #10 called "Illusion". LeToya sings the first verse. I'm not really feeling the last 3 tracks, they're "Birthday", "Sail On", & "My Time Has Come". Overall, I gave this album a 4 because there wasn't enough uptempo beats. But destiny's child improved on their 2nd album, "The Writings On The Wall".

2 out of 5 stars Uptempo songs are fantastic, but slow songs not as good   August 5, 1999

I loved Destiny's Child the minute I heard a bit of the "No, No, No" video. But I usually end up skipping through at least half the songs on the album. "No, No, No" parts I & II, "With Me" parts I & II, and "Illusion" are very danceable and these women's voices are beautiful. Harmonies are great and the fast songs really make you want to sing along.

Their voices didn't seem to be used as well on the slower songs. The arrangements didn't compliment their talents as well as on the faster songs, the backings (bass, synthesizers, etc.) were unimaginative, and overall, they just seemed flat and overly sentimental.

After listening to this album many times and always skipping over so many songs, I'm wishing they'd released a shorter album with only about 5 of these songs instead of the full-length one.

    3 out of 5 stars Destiny's Child   March 25, 2005

Ok so I pulled out debut albums of my recent favorite girl groups and wanted to add my 2 cents about DC's debut. I completely agree with Rara Estilo's comments about the enjoyable parts of this disc - namely the harmonies, the melodies of the songs and how well the vocal production is on this album. That's because at the time, they were obviously a GROUP, that's because it was a time before the "DianaRossification" of Beyonce and her elevation to lead singer (I wish I could take credit for that term but I stole it from someone else and find it hilariously accurate).

The standout songs to me on the disc are:

Second Nature (very ambitious taking on the Isley Bros but the vocal production is beautiful)

No No No - Pt 2 (should've left part 1 on the cutting board)

With Me, Pt 1 (catchy, displays all members' vocals)

    Tell Me (beautiful ballad)

    Illusion (another catchy Wyclef production)

    Sail On

It's definitely a disc that fans of the group should have and appreciate because it's a great starting point and reference to see how a group can & did change in just a few short years.

    1 out of 5 stars "Destiny's Child Is A Joke!"   November 4, 1999

This review goes to my babe!(Nicole) Mwah! I love you, hun! OK...now I will spew some pretty nasty venom at Destiny's Child, hehe! First of all, this is wimp music at it's absolute finest! All they know how to say is"No No No" What kinda stuff is that? This music is SO boring! The only reason I'm reviewing this is because my cute girl friend likes them:) Otherwise I wouldn't be here! Do yourself a favor and listen to some pure chaos, hate and blaspemous Metal! Alrighty I wanna end this by saying... "DARK FUNERAL RULES! " and I love you Nicole!:) See, I told ya that i would get you back, lmao...
