    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com essential recording
Dion has released a lot of music in the last four years, which in lesser talents could generate a "got the last one, don't need this" yawn from the public. Every conceivable base is covered here--"Tell Me" is the iconic pop adult smash, "Treat Her Like a Lady" has sewn up Contemporary Hits Radio, and there are a half-dozen others to keep the party going till 1999. The inclusion of the theme song to Titanic ("My Heart Will Go On") proves that nothing is likely to scuttle the unsinkable Ms. Dion. --Jeff Bateman

1 out of 5 stars Invasion from Outer Space   February 10, 2000

Celine Dion terrifies the hell out of me. She is so aggressive, so psychotically determined to succeed, but so revoltingly talentless that it is almost impossible to believe she exists. The television ad where she flicks her head at the end towards the camera, as if to say, 'Even though the sound of my voice would have made Dr Mengele jealous, YOU WILL BUY MY ALBUM OR DIE!' is the ultimate marketing device. Advertising is one thing, but torture is supposed to be a war-crime. 'I am Celine Dion, I am a success, SO THERE, DO NOT DEFY ME!' I almost jumped out of my seat when I saw it. Ever since the record companies got a stranglehold on the music 'industry' (why is it called an 'industry' anyway? It should be a lot more than that) in the 80's, things have been bad, but never like this. Anyone could be forgiven for mistaking this album cover for an episode of the X-FILES. Despite her attempts to be attractive, which apparently include injecting poison into her face every day to prevent her muscles moving so that she will not develop wrinkles, poor Celine has managed to appear looking more like an alien than a human. I suppose that marketing can make this the new definition of beauty.

But the music! How could it happen? Not even a 1 trillion dollar advertising campaign should have been able to do anything for this. Listening to her voice is like being sliced open by a piece of jagged glass. And she tries SO hard to screeeeech past the pain-barrier, anyone with a heart condition or digestive problem had better watch out. Combined with the hideous, nausteating tunes, your time on Earth may be very limited. You may be about to die and join Celine forever in her alien world of terror. Save yourselves while you can!

4 out of 5 stars This Is A Total Package   March 9, 2002

Celine Dion's 1997 release LETS TALK ABOUT LOVE embraces you in a message of love. The album contains soft ballads, rock, movie themes, duets, and opera. The one song that hits me the most and has become my best favorite from the album is Track 14-TO LOVE YOU MORE. A passionate ballad with a very elegant violin opening, the song sorts of like a response to BECAUSE YOU LOVED ME in the previous release.

The producers of this album (Vito Luprano and John Doelp) have saved the best for last in the album. Track 15-LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE is sort of like the kind of song you'll hear in Olympics closing, like AMIGOS POR SIMPRE (Barcelona Games 1992). Celine is joined by a children choir in this heart-warming piece. Track 13-I HATE YOU THEN I LOVE YOU (duet with Luciano Pavarotti) will share the merit with LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE as my second favorite from the album. It's a beautiful opera song. As Celine has noted, Luciano is the greatest tenor in the world and she had been secretly hoping to sing a love song with him.

Speaking of popularity, everyone will agree that Track 12-MY HEAR WILL GO ON (theme from Titanic) is the most popular piece in this album. James Horner had do an incredible job on the music score for the film. The music is stunning, breathtaking, and heart-pounding. Cameron (Titanic director) originally did not want to have a vocal theme but instrmentals. After listening to Celine's demo of MY HEART WILL GO ON, Cameron adopted the song as the movie theme. The movie version (as recorded on the Titanic soundtrack) is slightly different. The arrangement is better in this version recorded in Celine's album. The very last four songs, Tracks 12, 13, 14, and 15 are my personal picks and have made the album worth to buy. The album, however, has some other jewels.

Track 07-WHERE IS THE LOVE and Track 08-WHEN I NEED YOU go hand in hand as a pair of beautiful love soft ballads. Track 08-WHEN I NEED YOU Celine sings with a very soft voice. The song would make a nice Kareoke choice. Track 06-TELL HIM (duet with Barbara Streisand) is a very beautiful ballad again. What can I say about two divas coming together and perform a timeless classic? The twin opening cuts Track 01-THE REASON and Track 02-IMMORTALITY have some good tunes but are nothing compared to Track 14-TO LOVE YOU MORE and Track 15-LET'S TALK ABOUT LOVE. Track 03-TREAT HER LIKE A BABY is a nice twist from the rest of the album-it is a cute and fun song. I only own two Celine Dion's CDs: FALLING INTO YOU and the current one being reviewed. But I can honestly say that I love both albums. They consistently make their presence back to my CD player. Let the music pulsate in your mind...

5 out of 5 stars A real banquet of star singers and producers   July 7, 2001
7 out of 7 found this review helpful

This last entire english new material album from Celine Dion shows a more mature side of her talent, and proves that the succes of "Falling Into You" was not a passer-by one but instead the entrance to the Diva-world. "Let's Talk About Love" is by far the best album modern pop has ever produced during the past 20 years to say the least. There are simply too much stars involved in the recording of this album. There are practically no mistakes and there is a great coherence and cohesion between all of the tracks. No way this could ever be boring simply because it has a great diversity, starting with the common excellent well produced diva-pop and ending with a hip-hop cover and one or two extremely danceable songs. The album begins with "The Reason", a top vocal track which features the help of role model Carole King. On the following track The Bee Gees appear both as songwriters and as fellow singers turning "Immortality" into and very emotional and romantic song. On her hip-hop effort, Celine is being hepled by jamaican Diana King and Brownstone treesome. In fact, this one is a cover of Diana's 1995 "Treat her like a lady". "Tell Him" is the star duet on this album,Ms Dion teenage years' inspiration Barbra Streisand, having an important role in the succes of the song. It is overproduces, nevertheless tiresome. Still it is simple and clear, making it one of the most enjoyable musical experiences ever. There's also another beautiful cover on the album, "When I Need You", which goes on great with Celine's voice. The last duet is with classical singer Luciano Pavarotti turning on a more serious side of pop music, a more classical one. On top of that the famous producer George Martin (Beatles) helps on "The Reason", Walter Afanasieff and David Foster on "Tell Him" and several other tracks plus production work from music giants such as Rick Wake (previously worked on "The Colour..."), Corey Hart, Jim Steinman, Brian Adams, Jean-Jaques Goldman etc. There is also a spanish track on some non US editions "Amar Haciendo el Amor" on which Celine shows she has no problems with her fifth singing language. This is the work of Emilio Estefan Jr. But what surely made this album so important is the Titanic theme which needs no description. Next to those songs there are some great romantic tracks such as "Where Is The Love" and the title track. Inspite of the cliche phrase this really is a masterpiece album which fits in any respectable CD collection. In fact you cannot say you know music unless you've tasted this one aswell. All i have to say now is "Enjoy it!" because i know you will.

1 out of 5 stars Celine Yawns   October 3, 2001

Celine Dion has being inflicting her dreadful and sickening musak upon the world for quiet some time now.
All her past albums have been full of sugary adult pop songs (Adult pop?) and melodramatic over-blown ballads and love songs and, 'Lets talk about Love' is no exception. It sticks firmly to the tried and trusted Cleine formula. The Titanic theme song is probably the best thing about the album, keeping in mind that it is a terrible, terrible song, while other tracks such as 'The Reason' and 'Immortality' just show up how weak a voice Celine has actually got. Hitting those high notes is fine, but honey, you gotta stay in key!?! There are those who will completely diagree with my views of the album and there are people out there who love it. Well fair enough what ever you are into, it just was not my cup of tea. Some of her earlier work (especially 'Falling in to you' moved me to tears)So come on Celine!!!! I know you can do better just try that bit harder.

4 out of 5 stars Only a genius can provoke such love and such hate...   October 6, 1999

...and nothing proves the point more than listening to this brilliant album and then reading the 200-plus reviews found here. Celine's voice is truly distinctive, incredibly wide-ranging in pitch and style -- and guaranteed to make you love her or (God help you) hate her as an artist.

Yes, this album is "commercial" -- but it's the very opposite of heartless. Yes, it's slickly produced -- but what's wrong with perfection in arrangement and performance? Yes, she pulls in a lot of big names on this album -- but isn't she humble in their presence and amazed to call them friends? Yes, Celine is first and last a singer -- but since when does that make an artist lack integrity? Yes, I think some of the songs on the album aren't worth singing by Celine or anybody else; we don't need more bad attitudes in the world. (That's the only reason I gave this album 4 stars.) Should that detract from the many really excellent tracks, like my personal favorites (the remake of "When I Need You", "My Heart Will Go On", and "To Love You More")? That's what programming on CD players is for: to let one pick what he likes to hear...

Celine, don't let your detractors get you down. Just keep on keeping on and (if you have to) cry all the way to the bank.
