A quiet storm brews on the Babyface/Diane Warren-penned single "Say What's in My Heart," though it's the return of Linda Ronstadt on "Please Remember Me" and a cover of "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" (arranged by Roberta Flack and Tony Rich, no less) that sounds best. Neville's long overdue for the big payday, and this album should have been it. --Jeff Bateman

4 out of 5 stars A mature and beautiful album   December 5, 2002

This is a beautiful album. Not all of the songs are perfect, sure, and some are notably deficient in comparison with the others, but as for those others - boy!

The title track is an achingly honest song, beautiful and painful at once and more moving with each listen. The ballads with Linda Ronstandt are not of the same standard as those they shared on her excellent '89 album "Cry Like a Rainstorm...", but they are still head and shoulders above most pop ballads you will hear.

Although some of the songs are not stand-outs for me personally, it must be said that the entire album does have a lovely, almost dreamlike sound to it which is actually very effective in its flow from track to track, and that is something that, I think, is becoming ever rarer these days in pop albums.

Buy this album, give it several listens, and I challenge you not to become seduced by it.

5 out of 5 stars A Soulful, Musical Delight From Beginning to End!   June 2, 2001

I just read one review that said this collection of Aaron's music was too commercial.... I feel opposite of that opinion!!!

This CD has an over abundance of soft, rhythmic, emotion-filled songs that stay in your head for days.

First off, Aaron's high pitched, smooth voice sends a calm to the listener that is marked and only improved by the background vocals. The music itself is seducing. Just tremendous music!

My favorite song is "To Make Me Who I Am", the title song, which describes Aaron's struggles with a hard life of drug addiction, incarceration and his eventual recovery. It reminds me of my uncle and makes me feel strongly of what both of them have been through, and what they have overcome.

Sweet Amelia, Sweet and Smiling Eyes and God Made You For Me are some of the sweetest and most beautiful songs I've ever heard!

4 out of 5 stars A GREAT PIECE OF MUSIC SAY WHAT'S IN MY HEART IS THE BEST   September 14, 1999

Aaron Neville has a great Voice I only recently discovered. "To make me who I am" is a cd worth buying. Also Sweet Amelia is a classic song. Buy it and listen to it after a stressful day and it will relax you straight away.

Aaron Neville's voice and songs on this CD speak to the heart of the hopeless romantic in me. So many of the words speak directly to you and are so soothing. Love to hit the repeat button on the CD player on this one. Just the thought of the title track and Sweet Amelia.............

I've never seen such a beautiful voice as Aaron Neville. He sings with his heart and soul. It"s simply amazing! And the Music To make who I am is the best of the album. In fact all musics are fantastic! I'm looking foward to see his new album. I hope that it happens very soon.....
