| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com Feeder's full-length debut album didn't set the charts alight in 1997, but it did make an impression on the angst-ridden-teen market. Polythene is a successful fusion of metal and indie rock, but what really sets it apart is its underlying melodicism. Like Therapy? and Smashing Pumpkins before them, this trio has a good idea about what makes great pop music. Tracks such as "Polythene Girl," "My Perfect Day," and "Tangerine" have enough heavy guitars to please the teenage fan base, yet are still bright and catchy enough to please pop fans. Meanwhile, it's a testament to the inherent unjustness of the universe that the album's highlight, "High," didn't take up residency at the top of the charts. --Robert Burrow

Who are these guys? Who cares? The album is great anyway! November 1, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought the CD for 1.99 because my brother said he had heard their release, Cement, a few times and they sounded alright. I bought it and listened to it, and was amazed. A band I had never heard of played a variety of great pure rock songs(Tangerine, Cement, Radiation, Forgive) and some great soft rock songs(Suffocate, High) blended to gether in the form of an album that has stayed among my favorites ever since I bought it. The Feeder boys deserve more fans than they probably have now, but if they keep making albums like this, they should get more.
Feeder Certainly Rock ! March 1, 2000 Lippi Salt (United Kingdom) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I actually bought this after the first album, "Yesterday Went To soon" due to liking it so much. If you like alternative rock indie your love this, the songs vary from a mixture of depressing but lively tunes( if you get what i mean) to a happy rock ballard which are really catchy. My Perfect Day just sticks in your mind and just keeps going around until you have to play another tune to get it out of your head.! High lyrics just take you places you have never expected with yet another catchy tune. A real recommended buy, if you like easy listening alternative rock which you sing too I would say better than there second album.!
This CD is amazing May 27, 1999 demondave69@hotmail.com (England-Leeds) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Feeder are one best bands i have heard in a long time. There mix of soft rock and punk creates an absoloutely brilliant album from start to finish."High" is obsiously the best song on "Polythene" but all the other songs after a few times of listening to them become as catchy as"High".I advise you to buy this album as soon as you get any money.
Well worth a look... January 31, 2003 Steve Garthwaite (Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, England) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was never a huge Feeder fan until 'Buck Rogers' was released in January 2001, however, even after buying the single my interest soon wore off. But, after seeing them live supporting Stereophonics (my favourite band) in November 2001, I realised just how amazing they are! I imediately went out and bought as much of their back-catalogue as possible and haven't regretted it!'Polythene' is the bands first full-length album, released back in May 1997. It took me a while to get into this album as it's alot heavier then their more recent material and I'm not a huge fan of punk rock. But this album is not just loud guitars and screaching vocals like you might expect. If you give it a chance, you'll realise there is actually some really amazing songs underneath what at first appears to be nothing special. The singles 'Cement', 'Crash' and of course 'High' are great and the little known album tracks like 'Radiation', 'Change' and 'Forgive' really make this album shine. There is nothing really disappointing about this album and as a package its a great listen, but personally I tend to skip the likes of 'My Perfect Day' and 'Tangerine' as they are potential headaches. All in all this is a little listen, not the best debut but stick with it and it's true colours will shine through. It's one of those that grows on you over time. Tracklisting: 1. Polythene Girl (6/10) 2. My Perfect Day (3/10) 3. Cement (7/10) 4. High (9/10) 5. Crash (8/10) 6. Radiation (8/10) 7. Suffocate (7/10) 8. Descend (6/10) 9. Stereo World (8/10) 10. Change (9/10) 11. Tangerine (4/10) 12. Forgive (7/10) 13. 20th Century Trip (7/10) 14. High (Video)
Not to be missing from your collection!! February 13, 2004 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This was Feeder's first album proper after the mini-album "Swim" was released. This album boasts Feeders live sound to the extreme and was by no wondering that this was Metal Hammer magazines album of the year in 1997.This version of the album contains a slightly different tracklisting and unfairly dismisses "Waterfall" from the original release that charted at No90 (this one got No65), but don't let that put you off!, as the newest track on here titled "High" which was Feeder's first bona-fide hit reaching No24, will without doubt be a treat to your ears once you hear it, and you'll be wanting to hear this beauty time and time again!!. As for the rest of the album, it is full of heavy guitar energy and blasting riffs, which made me reach for the air guitar and then the real thing!!, and I hope it does the same for you too!!!. One for anybodys collection, and had Jon Lee's drumming energy written all over it:), not forgetting the lyrical and guitar playing genius of Grant Nicholas, and the skilful bass playing of Taka Hirose!!
