JMM's first and best December 2, 2001 Dino (Scotland) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
An unfortunate trend amongst young male country singers from the early 1990s was to produce an outstanding, real country first album before veering down the path of increasingly pop-driven music. This was never more true than in the case of John Michael Montgomery, whose 1992 debut CD Life's A Dance is an undoubted 5 star release. Full of great stone country (Beer And Bones, Life's A Dance, Nickels And Dimes And Love - originally recorded by Charley Pride - and Dream On Texas Ladies), Montgomery's infectious vocal twang saw him immediately rack up the first of several country number ones. The album's biggest hit was the quality ballad, I Love The Way You Love Me. Unfortunately, as early as his second album Kickin' It Up (the title suggests more excitement than the album delivered), Montgomery's song selections became more MOR and less traditional country. His greatest hits CD is worth a listen, but if you want one JMM album in your collection, it has to be this, his first.
Traditional style country February 22, 2001 G. Sawaged (Canada) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
John Michael is truly a great country singer. A voice at times reminiscent of Garth Brooks, but more traditional than Garth. This album contains some great good ol' country tunes. The sad ballads to love songs, to up-tempos. "I love the way you love me" was a big hit, and my personal favourite from the album. It was also later covered by Boyzone. This album was recorded in 1992 (I think it was his debut, but don't hold me to that), and he is still going strong.

Life Is A Dance For John Michael. The Title Track Became His First Top Ten Hit. But It Was The Romantic Balled "I Love The Way You Love Me" That Became His First Number 1 Hit In 1993. "Beer And Bones" Is A Dance Song. It Can Make You Get Up And Dance The Night Away. This CD Is A Must Have.
Life is a dance! January 15, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
What happened to great country albums like this one. Why does it seem you can not find these kind of good country cd's anymore! Life's a dance is probably Montgomery's best work and although I have heard some pretty good stuff from this guy Life's a dance measures up as being the best. You have great stuff like Life's a dance, Beer and Bones and Line on Love and so many more every song just gets better.
Top-Notch Early 90's Country Album July 5, 2007 K. Fontenot (The Bayou State) "Life's A Dance" was John Michael Montgomery's first album. Like many others have stated here, it was also his best. The title track is one of the best country tunes to have crawled out of the early 90's. It hit right near the beginning of what would become a Country explosion. Montgomery was just one of a pack of new young performers following in the wake of Garth Brooks' commercial machine. Like most of these performers, however, Montgomery began to lose steam by the time his sophomore release, "Kickin' It Up," hit the CD racks. The monster hit on this album was obviously "I Love The Way You Love Me." It was a very popular tune across the board. I remember dancing to it at a 4-H Shortcourse event and it made the rounds at evey dancehall and prom for a couple of years. My personal favorite on this album is the "rough for the 90's" drinkin' and lost love tune, "Beer and Bones." Other highlights include "Line on Love," "When Your Baby Ain't Around" and the wonderful "Dream On Texas Ladies." In fact, every tune on this album is a highlight. I hate to sound like a broken record, but like others have stated: If you want just one John Michael Montgomery album in your collection, this is the one. It outperforms all of his other albums, including his greatest hits.
