Soho's Cuff Sisters are now members of Copenhagen April 18, 2002 Yve (Alexandria, Virginia United States) 12 out of 12 found this review helpful
Hey, if you're missing the exquisite vocals of Jacqui and Pauline Cuff, the voices of Soho, they are alive and recording with the group Copenhagen in the UK. They still have their great twin sound. I hope Amazon will soon add Copenhagen to their inventory. Currently, the Cuff sisters are singing with Neil Henderson who leads the group. Tim London, who produced Soho and played guitar is still the preferred producer for Copenhagen---so the gang is alive and well in the UK as Copenhagen. Check them out!
Very Hip Effort ! September 14, 2000 Armando M. Mesa (Chandler, AZ) 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
One of the best pre-alternative/soft hip-hop/trip/hop bands to come out of the early 90's. Too bad after only two or three c.d.s Soho became "so long".All sentimental sincerities aside, Goddess proved to be more of an underground success from the U.K. then a top 40 mainstream pop band for commercial consumption. A good thing, too; This only showed that Soho did it more for the art than the industry. When I heard the female lead singers (the Cuff sisters) before seeing their video, I had a strong mental image of the two resembling a couple of Anglo American gals ( a look between Joan Osbourne and Sarah McLachlan or Alanis Morissette). Was I surprised and delighted to find out they were from England of Negro descent with closely shaved heads and a free-style artistic experimental attitude ! The entire album does not contain a single toss out track or tune based on mediocrity. It possesses an almost retro-feel of the 60's with 70's and 90's musical pop influences. Soho only produced three albums, Noise, Goddess and Thug. Skip the first and last one. Goddess is a Godsend !...
The BEST album no one knows of... October 22, 1999 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought this CD for the same reason that 99.9% of the rest of the planet did, HIPPY CHICK. This, it turns out, is part of the weaker half of this disk. I still have trouble differentiating its beginning w/ the Smith's "How Soon Is Now?". I know, personal problem. Anyway... New Love Generation... Girl On A Motorbike... Boy 90... Goddess... these are all great tunes in their own right, but together, sequentially, forget about it. I had to listen 4 or 5 times before it hit me how GOOD this disk is. Give it a chance, if you don't like it email me and I will buy it from you. P.S. I have been giving this disk out for Christmas gifts for years and EVERYBODY says it is awesome.
Fun, catchy, hip, music... June 18, 2000 Teedums (White Bear Lake, MN) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this tape since 1992, then got the CD years later. Bought it for Hippychick, but the whole CD is quite good. My personal favorites are "Love Generation" and "Hippychick" of course, but "Shake Your Thing", "Freaky" and "Goddess" are also great songs and the rest of the CD isn't so bad either. They had a unique sound and it's too bad that they disappeared. It's hard to believe it is 15 years old, sounds as good to me now as it did then. I would recommend this for those who like early 90's music. It's good!
This was a really good album!! June 27, 2007 Kimberly Bouck (Arizona) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This album is old and my review is way late but this is one of my fave albums. "Hippychick" is probably the only song most people recognize but the album was full of catchy songs. "Love Generation" is the first track and it's a feel good, dancey song that makes you want to listen to it again. Probably the best track on the album. Other good tunes are "Freaky" and "Goddess". You cannot listen to this album without wanting to get up and dance. This group was talented. I wonder whatever happened to them?
