5 out of 5 stars Take A Bow With Madonna   November 25, 2004
8 out of 8 found this review helpful

The song "Take A Bow" is one of Madonna's most gorgeous ballads to date. The song brought her back to the top (atleast in the U.S.) and showed the world she has talent.

    1. In Da Soul Mix: This is my favorite Remix. It has a very R&B/Soul feel to it. Some much R&B/Sould, this remix sound very sensual.

    2. In Da Soul Instrumental: The instrumental to the previous. The music to this remix is gorgeous, so an instrumental is A+.

    3. Album Version: The orginal version We all know and Love. Simply perfection.

    4. Album Instrumental: The beautiful music that only Madonna and Babyface could create, is housed hear, alone.

    5. Silky Soul Mix: A very tame remix. It has a soft beat and says Soul unlike any other.

This cd is a must-have for your Madonna Collection!

    3 out of 5 stars Take A Bow   January 4, 1999

The remixes on this single are not dance, but rather R&B grooves. The song lends itself very well to the mixes.

5 out of 5 stars Take A Bow Before The Queen Of Pop!   July 15, 2003
5 out of 7 found this review helpful

Something happened in December 1994. Madonna released the second single from her Bedtime Stories album. It was called Take A Bow and it was, for the first time in more than twelve long years, the only song by Madonna that failed to make the UK Top 10. Take A Bow peaked at a rather disappointing No.16 in the UK, spending a total of nine weeks on the chart. A song hadn't charted as low by Madonna since Borderline which struggled to peak at No.56 in June 1984. Ironically, the song stormed the charts in the US, spending seven weeks at No.1 to become Madonna's biggest hit to date.

Take A Bow opens in a wonderfully relaxing mood. The instruments are soft and peaceful, then Madonna begins singing her first verse, "Take a bow. The night is over. This masquerade is getting older. Lights are low. The curtains are down. There's no one here (There's no one in, there's no one in the crowd). Say your lines but do you feel them? Do you mean what you say when there's no one around? (No one around) Watching you, watching me. One lonely star (One lonely star you don't know who you are)." Madonna's voice is beautiful and very soulful. She then begins to sing the wonderful chorus, "I've always been in love with you (Always with you). I guess you've always known it's true (You know it's true). You took my love for granted. Why oh why. The show is over say goodbye. Say goodbye. Say goodbye." Madonna then begins singing her second verse, "Make them laugh. It comes so easy. When you get to the part where you're breaking my heart (Breaking my heart). Hide behind your smile. All the world loves a clown (Just make 'em smile the whole world loves a clown). Wish you well. I cannot stay. You deserve an award for the role that you played (Role that you played). No more masquerade. You're one lonely star (One lonely star and you don't know who you are)." Madonna then goes on to sing the chorus twice more in all its classy style, before the tempo rises and Madonna sings, "All the world is a stage (World is a stage). And everyone has their part (Has their part). But how was I to know which way the story'd go? How was I to know you'd break (You'd break, you'd break, you'd break), you'd break my heart?" The chorus is then repeated a few more times and Madonna's vocals grow softer and the song quietly bows down.

The video to Take A Bow is brilliant. Madonna appears as the lonely lover of a Spanish bull-fighter. She loves her man, but he never has time for her. She sits alone in her apartment watching her lover on the television while singing this song. It's a good video with a wonderful concept and brilliant images of wonderful clothes, jewellery, fine objects and beautiful scenery. Both the song and the video are classics.

5 out of 5 stars Erotic remix! You want this!   September 25, 2002

If you buy this for any reason, do it for track 2--InDaSoul Instrumental. I got this in college and never played anything else. My friends called it the sex-version. The smooth urban sound will get your libido going and works better than Viagra!

The original may sound like a nice ballad about lost love but the R&B grooves will make you writhe in passion for that lost love for just one more night. There's also a version with vocals but it's the instrumental that leaves it all to your imagination.

Light some candles and dim the lights. InDaSoul is in da house!

3 out of 5 stars The Night Is Over...   May 27, 2000

This maxi single has five tracks, all of them being different versions of "Take A Bow." First is the InDaSoul mix, next is the InDaSoul Instrumental, third is the album version, fourth is the album instrumental, and last is the Silky Soul Mix. The InDaSoul mix is a rather bouncy, summery mid-tempo version. It doesn't fit the mood of the song, but excusing that it's a pretty nice remix. The Silky Soul mix is truer to the original in terms of feel, but is pretty average. Both mixes are straight up R&B and jettison the original's dramatic ending. Probably only worth a purchase to hard core Madonna fans and collectors. Anyone who simply likes the song is better off buying Madonna's ballads compilation, Something To Remember, or Bedtime Stories, the album this song song originated from.
