Amazon.com Three cheers for anyone who skips down roads not taken, but records as eclectic as this one are what keep David Byrne from approaching the level of success he had with the Talking Heads. Most intriguing here are the tracks co-produced with U.K. trip-hoppers Morcheeba, among them "Daddy Go Down," which mixes Asia Minor with Ashley MacIsaac's backwoods fiddle stomp. Meanwhile, Mark Mothersbaugh brings a hint of Devo lunacy to "Wicked Little Doll," while the Luaka Bop Latin touch shows up on "Miss America." --Jeff Bateman

Byrne is back November 28, 2000 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'd trailed off in following David Byrne - the albums just didn't have the spark they used to - until I was given 'Feelings' as a gift. It's a wonderfully eccentric album with a number of remarkable songs. There are elements woven in from a wide span of prior musical interests: songs reminicent of old 'Heads albums, Latin influences, strains of Eno, and more. I've been playing it frequently, and recommend it for those who have enjoyed him in the past.

Despite a share of good songs (the haunting "Dance on Vaseline", the dramatic "Burnt by the Sun" or the offbeat "Wicked Little Doll"), this David Byrne effort is not very convincing or appealing. While there`s nothing really bad here, most of the moments are nothing special either. "Feelings" is listenable from beginning to end, yet only a couple of tracks rise above average and become memorable. Yes, Byrne combines very different styles as usual, mixing pop, world music, electronica, bossa nova, funk and other influences, but not even that melting pot can save an album that just happens to carry too much filler. Overall, this ends up being a curious yet unecessary record. Not the worse, but there are better choices out there.Forgettable.
So worn out I had to get a new one March 31, 2000 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have 100's of CD's and this is the only CD I carry in my briefcase at all times. "Dance on Vaseline" is my favourite track and is so pleasureable (that voice, hypnotic/sexual!). For a relatively recent work this has a great variation in styles tying the David Byrne of old and the Brazilian new together with amazing synergy. This CD is so exceptional that I have worn it out and had to get a new one. The music is gorgeous and thoughtful and the lyrics are powerful. Once again David Byrne proves himself to be my favourite artist, an artist who has enchanted me since 1983 when I was first introduced to the music of Talking Heads. If you believe you are an intelligent listener, take a punt, you won't be disappointed.
Pleasant, Burt Not Essential February 4, 2000 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
The most arresting element of this CD, unfortunately, is the case itself - with its David Byrne doll photos, oddly laid-out credits, "David Byrne Mood Computer" and so on. The music on the CD isn't bad at all, but it seems too much thought went in the wrong direction. The music isn't catchy or intriguing enough to hold heavy interest all the way through. That's not to say there aren't highlights - "Miss America" sounds like a REI MOMO track revisted in a more modern setting, "Dance on Vaseline" is slippery fun, and I also like "Amnesia". But it's hard for me to get too into this album when I know he's done better. Neophytes are advised to start elsewhere (REI MOMO or UH-OH) - growing fans can pick it up without worrying.
Restores my faith in 90s music. July 23, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love this CD. I can't stop listening to it. Especially beloved are "Finite=Alright" and "Miss America", but all the songs are excellent. As I listen to the album again and again, I am growing more and more fond of the other songs, which perhaps aren't as catchy right off the bat.I bought this CD not long after asking myself one day, "Why is there no good new music anymore?" Now I know that there is great new music out there, you just have to go hunting for it. Buy this CD! It's wonderful. It's fuzzy-freaky. And the CD case color-codes the mood of each song. Brilliant!
