    Editorial Reviews:

    Amazon.com essential recording
It's easy to understand why this is one of the most intense, heartfelt albums that Reba McEntire has ever recorded. It came on the heels of a plane crash that killed her road manager and six band members. Though McEntire channels her sense of loss into these songs, her restraint is what makes these performances so memorable. Her voice is powerful and taut with emotion as she grapples with the tangled despair of the title tune and "Is There Life out There"--both back-to-back No. 1 singles. Other highlights include McIntire's fabulous rendition of the 1973 Vicki Lawrence hit, "The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia." --Bob Allen

    5 out of 5 stars Immaculate!   June 11, 2000

Absolutely the best Reba album of all time! As much as I cried just listening to this album, I don't know how she got through the recording process. It's the most painful album I've ever listened to. Bus as sad as these songs are, they serve as a reminder that life is so short, and to appreciate every moment that you have with the ones that you love. It is an album about loss, but also one about hope and the resilience of the human spirit.

Although For My Broken Heart is probably the most well known of the songs on the album, Bobby is the heartbreaker. A vivid montage of Bobby in prison, his son, and the heartbreaking tragedy that binds them together automatically pops into your mind and it's as if a movie is going on right inside of your head. In the end when the son offers Bobby his forgiveness and his love, the song will have you weeping aloud.

No matter what musical genre you search, you will never find a better album than this one. Maybe some that equal it, but none better. It is a masterpiece and one to be cherished forever.

    5 out of 5 stars Reba's Triumph   February 7, 2002

FOR MY BROKEN HEART is Reba McEntire's most honest, emotional offering, and her most consistent effort. The album was Reba's first new album in a few years, after the tragic death of her band on a plane. The pain and remorse is evident in her voice, on the title track, which is one of her best songs from the 90's. Elsewhere, the album offers other great songs which will forever be remembered. "Is There Life Out There" is another great song about a mother who is working a job, raising two kids and going to college. Its a spirited performance by Reba, who gives the song life. Her cover of "The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia" is a great performance as well, as if the song was written for her to sing it. The album shows Reba's ability as a singer to convey different emotions and to get the message she wants to send out to the listener. Other highlights include "He's In Dallas", "If I Had Only Known" and "Buying Her Roses". A must have. Give it a listen.

I own just about most of everything Reba has released and this cd was so dear to my heart. She has gone through so much in her career and has survived. #1 in my heart!

    5 out of 5 stars A MASTERPIECE   February 28, 2005

Nothing Reba has done since can top this masterpiece! She went downhill after this one which reflects her real feelings. I've not bought another Reba CD since because I've listened to all of them before purchasing them and they are all mediocre compared to "For My Broken Heart", the most emotional, stellar offering she ever recorded! Beginning with the haunting title track, the proceeding onto "Is There Life Out There", the emotionalism of "Bobby" and "He's In Dallas are pure gems!! Next we have "All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go" the story of a lady in a nursing home waiting for someone to take her to church on Sunday but that someone never shows up. Truly heartbreaking. Then we have Reba's fantastic rendition of "The Night The Lights Went Out in Georgia" which more than eclipses the original by Vicki Lawrence. They video they did on this was superb also! Then we have "Buying Her Roses" another excellent cut. Probably the crowning gem on this CD is the next cut, "The Greatest Man I Never Knew"...truly haunting and heartbreaking! Unbeatable!! The last two are also haunting and noteworthy..."I Wouldn't Go that Far" and "If I Had Only Known", Reba's pain at the time when she was going through great tragedy in her life is reflected in each song but particularly on this last one. This CD is a true masterpiece and, as I said, nothing she has done since will ever be able to top this. Every cut on this CD could easily have been a single! It is Reba at her very, very best! Along with her traditional country CDs, this is the best she has to offer us. Ahh, if only she would go back to singing this type of music instead of the bubble gum country she does now.

    5 out of 5 stars Reba's Best!   April 21, 2000

This is probably Reba's best and most consistent release to date. As always, her songs are heartfelt and socially relevant and her voice, divine. "The Greatest Man I Never Knew" is possibly Reba's most intelligent and poetic song. Vocal recording quality is excellent--more robust than her earlier recordings (finally doing her voice justice). The instruments are also very precisely recorded, but the recording is a bit bass shy. For a perfectly recorded Reba release, her new CD "So Good Together" is fabulous.
