"Sip the Juice, I Got Enough to Go Around" July 16, 2006 Kalie A. Gipson 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
As soon as the first song starts to play, you already know this soundtrack is a hit. With rap artists like Naughty by Nature, Big Daddy Kane, Eric B. & Rakim, Too Short, Salt N Peppa, EPMD, and Cypress Hill, and with New Jack Swing artists like Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, who can go wrong with this soundtrack? There's not really one bad song that you can name on here. Every artist comes correct. It's not too often that a soundtrack this good will be released. The song I like most on here is "Juice (Know the Ledge)" by legends Eric B. & Rakim. It has that classic, old-school style that would satisfy any Hip-Hop head. I love the beat and of course Rakim's lyrics are great. Big Daddy Kane's "Nuff Respect" is another classic track on here, showing off old-school perfection. "So You Want To Be A Gangster" by Too Short had him taking time off from his pimp-filled rhymes to show that being a thug isn't all it's cracked up to be. Salt N Peppa tell you a man's true intentions with "He's Gamin' On Ya". "Uptown Anthem" is the perfect opening track for this compilation. Who can go wrong with "Shoot Em Up" by then-rookies Cypress Hill, or "It's Goin Down" by EPMD. The Juvenile Committee outline the plot of the movie with the enjoyable "Flipside". Teddy Riley and Aaron Hall, both members of Guy, respectively, deliver two on-point cuts. Riley and Tammy Lucas look for reassurance on "Is It Good To You", which boasts an uptempo beat and has that classic New Jack sound. Hall's "Don't Be Afraid" is very catchy, with another nice, uptempo, New Jack sound that never sounds too dated. "Does Your Man Know About Me" by Raheim starts off with a rap, and then goes into some smooth singing. The "People Get Ready" remix by the Brand New Heavies ends the soundtrack off on a good note. The only real song the compilation can do without is "What Could Be Better B**ch" by Son of Bazerk. With the exception of the one song, this is a perfect soundtrack from start to finish. Almost every song is a hit. With legendary artist after legendary artist, this soundtrack is worth your money, where ever you can find it. Hip-Hop & R&B just doesn't sound like this anymore. I would recommend you to buy the movie, and then buy the soundtrack at where ever you can find it. It's a perfect combination.
Don't Be Afraid to Buy This!!! July 22, 2001 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This soundtrack is one of the greatest soundtracks of the 90's. The movie rocks! and the soundtrack fitted perfectly for the mood and tempo of the movie. The artists did some of their best work for this soundtrack. I especially like Naughty By Nature, Eric B. & Rakim, and Aaron Halls' joints. Get this because you can't get the original version of Aaron Hall's "Don't Be Afraid" anywhere else except on this soundtrack and trust me I heard the other versions and in no way do they compare to the SLAMMIN' Juice soundtrack version. PEACE!!!
Come Get Yo' Juice July 8, 2003 Greekfreak (Pusan Korea (South)) Back in the day, soundtracks used to be bumpin' like mad, but now they just seem to be perfunctory and obvious. The selection of artists may seem like old timers' day in the 'hood, but don't let that fool you--most of these jams are still smokin' even over 11 years after the fact. The EPMD, Big Daddy Kane, Naughty By Nature, Too $hort, and Aaron Hall cuts are the cream of the album, but the whole thing's a keeper. For a similarly excellent album, check out the New Jack City soundtrack.
okay tight but could have been better October 30, 2002 Sherance M. Brothers (Jasper, Alabama United States) some good jams on here best ones to me are nuff respect by big daddy kane, and uptown anthemn by naughty by nature. aaron hall don't be afraid is on here and can't forget edric b and rakim's classic cut and epmd samples marvin gaye's i want you and the brand new heavies are funky as usual if you like that sound that is a good soundtrack.
