1 out of 5 stars NOT THE WORST BUT CLOSE!!   September 15, 2005

I don't know why Reba thought she could adequately cover "classic" hits made popular by others. I agree that it was like listening to Karaoke when I heard this. Reba herself has dismissed this effort as one other reviewer noted...and with good reason. It was embarrassing to listen to and it sure must have been embarrassing to her.

1 out of 5 stars LETS DO KARAOKE, REBA!!   September 16, 2005

If you want a good example of someone doing Karaoke, this is the CD for you!!! I've never heard anything like it my life. The worst cut, and one of the worst mistakes of Reba's recording career is her horrible rendition of "On My Own", a really horrible song not helped any by Reba's backups..Martina McBride and Linda Davis. Oh gosh, the rest of the tunes here nowhere near begin to give us the magic of the originals. THe less said about this debacle, the better.

5 out of 5 stars STELLAR...THE QUEEN OUTSHINES ALL ORIGINALS!   June 13, 2000

MANY PEOPLE go into this listening the wonderful stone country Reba that belts out classic hits like "Whoever's In New England" and "How Blue," but, my little chickens, this is not "Starting Over"'s reason for being. This is an album of little things that we call covers; in layman's, remakes of what CAN be any kind of music. We're not talking remakes of only Hank Sr. and Mel Tillis; these are remakes from anywhere that Miss Reba chose.
Reba delivers highlights on the tracks "On My Own" (wonderfully backed by Yearwood, McBride, and amazin' Davis), "You Keep Me Hangin On," and the absolute beauty of Dolly's "Starting Over Again." Some might say I have a soft spot for family songs, but one can't deny the sheer excellence of the title track plus a word.
Nice performances were turned in also on the triste "I Won't Mention It Again," "You're No Good," and Glen Campbell's "By The Time I Get To Phoenix."
Though the good ole boys may not be able to get past the word pop in this album's description, one should rest assured that anything that comes out of the Queen of Country's mouth won't be anything but one word; country!
    5 stars.

    1 out of 5 stars LAUGHABLE!!   July 18, 2005

Reba, you must have been "Talking in Your Sleep" when you agreed to record this mess. I agree with "You're No Good", because its true, "You're no Good", at least not on this CD. Somebody must have pleaded with you to "Please Come to Boston to record this because its ovbious you were "500 Miles Away From Home" in Nashville, at least in your mentatlity staring at the "Ring on Your Finger" with too much time on your hands so "I Won't Mention It Again" that "You Keep Me Hanging On" long enough to make me gag with each listen. Its best Reba thinks about "Starting Over" with fresh ideas the next time someone proposes something like this to her. Meanwhile, I'm setting out "On My Own" trip out west tomorrow and maybe "By the Time I Get to Phoenix" I can forget about what a horrible CD this is!!
