Picked this up a while back because for me all bob is all gold. Truthfully, there are many better options out there. Starting with the Tuff Gong "Songs of Freedom" box set. If you have that then you don't need this. GUIDANCE

Awesome Collection of Vintage Marley March 31, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have read some of the other review and this is a GREAT collection especially considering the price! I have a pretty decent collection of Bob Marley and have been a big fan from the mid-70s. Many of these songs are available on other Wailer disks but these two CDs contain some of the best versions of these songs that are available. I don't have much information on the history of these recordings and wish I did. They appear to be made before the height of the Wailer's commercial success. The cuts are pure, raw, and without any studio over-polished sound. I listen to these disks over and over again. These are some of the best old cuts of Marley that I have. I like this collection better then the Trojan Trenchtown Rock Anthology. I challenge you to listen to Natural Mystic and Trenchtown Rock on this version and then put in the versions on Tuff Gong / Island's Natural Mystic The Legend and I think you will agree that these Retro cut are awesome. I highly recommend this for anyone who is interested in Bob Marley and especially fans that want to get an appreciation for some of the earlier stuff. At the price of this set you can not go wrong! Oh, I think the sound quality is pretty good!!! You will not be disappointed with these disks. I have the 2001 Recording Arts, Dejavu Retro Gold Collection edition.

bob marley god. his origonal recordings are better than the remastered [recordings]. way better. thats what this is. its origonal bob marley, the way he sounded, the true jamacan reggae. if you think this is poorly recorded... thats cause it is. jamaca isnt a rich place with nice recording studios.... and this is essential for anyone who calls themselves bob marley fans. bob marley is god. buy this. its great. peace man
a good start June 9, 2000 Judah Rule the Heart ya Know (USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
if you are trying to get all of bobs material, this is a good start for 40 great tunes. this and songs of freedom are a must. you need this though b/c not all of these songs are on songs of freedom, so therefor you need them. the quality is as good as any bob song from this era. people need to realize not all bob songs sound like legend or kaya or rastaman vibration. this is how many of the songs sound like. great great great every song, not a bad one in the set.
