For fans of Tori B-sides June 27, 2000 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
Buyers should take note that there are a few different Talula CD singles floating around out there. This particular disc has four tracks and was made in Germany. Like the domestic U.S. version, this disc includes as track 1 "Talula (the tornado mix)," running 3:43 -- credited as "Talula (Tornado Album Version)" on the U.S. disc. This is a great alternate mix of Talula, featured in the movie "Twister," different from the cut on Pele. Both the German single and the U.S. domestic single also include "Frog On My Toe," a sweet little song that Tori fans will smile at (Tori herself has said in concert that she wrote "Frog" after having a few too many margaritas!). But this German single features two tracks, "Sister Named Desire" and "Alamo," which are not included on the U.S. version. These two are slower tracks, in contrast to the danceable, upbeat Talula tornado mix. At first listen, they may not seem as instantly charming as vintage Tori B-sides such as "Honey" or "Sweet Dreams," but both tracks are unique and thoughtful and will grow on you after a few rotations in your CD player. Worth a listen.
People get a grip April 9, 1999 viscum@hotmail.com (Florida) Tori is one of those epic vocalists that captivate us. One of the downfalls for many "ears with feet" is when Tori breaks away from her girl and her Piano routine, they all go screaming in shocked horror. God forbid she dip further into music psyche!! Talula is a saving grace kind of song, and the b-sides on this single are a jump into Tori's little world through a songs secon comming. The infamous synth remix on this trax I not only find fun and flirty, but its great if you want to just release anything you have been holding back.I am assuming all those who have dubed this mix as abhorent, and horrid, also have problems with Jackies Strength. or is it all good when the mix hits a chart? If you hate the machine, Good! more for us people who like anything Tori puts her name on. Never buy something because of what someone else says. Listen and judge for yourself. Untame your senses and let leave your inhibitons at the door. From the silk of Talula, to the funky club beat remix... Tori is still the one and only goddess. I'll always bow to her musical concepts.
what's wrong with dance? April 30, 1999 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
To everyone who just had to comment on the synthasiza mix-- open your minds a little! Dance ia a valid musical form, as much so as any moving piano piece. BT is a talented performer, and it's a good mix. Check out "Ima" or "Eschem" from BT before sounding like an idiot. Three cheers for Tori for experimentation.
wow is right May 18, 1999 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
well if you don't like synth, you don't, but this one ain't bad. it opened me up to the dance world, and i think it's pretty nifty to listen to when you're getting ready to go somewhere...not the typical sit-captivated-in-your-chair-oh-tori-i-will-cry-with-you piano song, but talula, in it's many forms is (another) undying tori amos song, and the remix is just one more version. here's my oh-so-humble advice: *if you are a toriphile, buy it...all the better for the collection, right? *if you are wavering b/w this or another single, and maybe short on cash, go for Winter single or Spark or Hey Jupiter, or Crucify *if you like tori fine, but aren't really into the whole dance beat thing, (and have some money to throw around) buy this one....i mean, there's still Frog on my toe, Samurai(you get to hear tori's speaking voice! i love it!)and London Girls (i'm not a huge fan of this one, i would've preferred improv-tori, but hey,i get what i get) *peace, love, music, and tori*
I love tori amos June 27, 1999 ziggyfoo2@aol.com (new york) 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
i love tori amos, but i do not like the bt's synthasia mix, this is not because i hate when tori steps away from her piano its really because it cuts down on her singing talent. however i love tori so much that i bought all three of the talula cd's. I happen to adore bt's blue skies which also is sung by tori. It emphasizes her voice. That is what we love about her is her talent. Its just not as beautiful to hear the song get dragged out the way that it does.
