Tied for first place December 12, 2001 ZT (Houston, TX USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I can't decide which album is my favorite: this one or Violence has Arrived. Both are similar in style but VhA is a bit heavier. This album still has some very heavy songs such as Whargoul, Crush, Kill, Destroy, Stalin's Organs, Martyr Dumb, etc. But it also has some more punkish humorous songs such as The New Plague. Still though, the only song that I really just don't like on this album is Think You Otta Know This. Whargoul may very well be the best GWAR song of all times, and Martyr Dumb and Meat Sandwich should also be considered classics. The booklet is also really good. Read through it and you'll find it's quite an entertaining read. All in all you can't go wrong with this album. If you haven't heard it, Whargoul is worth the price of the CD alone.

Well I was going to give this album 4 stars but the booklet inside the CD is so great it gets a 5. I'm not kidding, the mini gwar book inside is worth the price of the CD alone, they really spent alot of time on it and its funny as hell. This one of Gwar's more slower albums, plenty of new live favorites on here like RaNaRok, Whargoul, Dirty Filthy, Think You Outta Know This, Surf of Syn, Crush Kill Destroy and others that get the blood flowing on stage. This album is a little cheesy and tame compared to AMBD and Scumdogs but its still a classic, no where near as crappy as Carnival of Chaos. The last song on this CD is STUPID, I have told Gwar upfront at a show if they ever play that song live again I'll kill them all. Another classic Gwar album, not for starters, if your new to Gwar I suggest your first Gwar experiance be a live show then go buy Scumdogs of The Universe.
Gwar's best album July 14, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Ragnarok is my favorite Gwar album. Although the other 7 albums are great, Ragnarok is my favorite. I especially like the songs Martyrdumb, Nudged, and Stalin's Organs, they express Gwar's views on politics and religion they are very well written and are great songs. Also, Sleazy P. Martini sings his second song which is also great. He has one the coolest voices in the band. So if you don't own this album buy it.
An underappreciated gem in the Gwar catalogue March 5, 2002 H. Mackins III (San Francisco, CA USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Ragnarok is the forgotten Gwar album: sandwiched between the experimental This Toilet Earth and Gwar's punkish Carnival of Chaos/We Kill Everything, Ragnarok's full-on synth-metal seems out of place. But this is brilliant, classic Gwar, and it's evident from the get-go with Meat Sandwich. Oderus sounds downright pissed on that one! There are tons of great songs on this album: Whargoul, Ragnarok, the insidiously catchy Dirty, Filthy, Stalin's Organs, Martyr Dumb..the list goes on and on. Ragnarok is also the Gwar album with the most non-Oderus songs: Sleazy has a great tune with "Think You Oughta Know This" and songs sung by Cardinal Syn, Sexecutioner, Slymenstra and Beefcake really flesh out the album. This disc brings Gwar lore back to the forefront as well, and the songs focusing on the impending doom of a comet, along with Cardinal Syn's attack, are plain fun. Overall, a return to form and a brilliant and underrated disc. One of Gwar's strongest. Highlights: just about everything.
GWAR! December 20, 2006 H3@+h (VT) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Maybe not the best, but this is a solid Gwar album. The riffs, the humor, the meat, it's all here. I'd have to say the stand-outs are the title track, "Dirty, Filthy", and of course the classic opener "Meat Sandwich", which I saw them perform last week. The rest still is great though, right down to the last track. Studio albums are all good and fine, but you'll really never know Gwar until you see them live. And for godsakes, get up in the first few rows. It's a bloody good time.
