    Editorial Reviews:

The self-titled debut by 18-year-old Mya combines trendy tracks with more thoughtfully constructed songs for a multi-textured album. An array of guest performers, including popular R&B crooner act Dru Hill and innovative hip-hop rhymer Missy Elliott, help out on this set. Mya is at her best in lower vocal registers, such as on the rolling "Baby It's Yours" and the funky, soul-struttin' "We Gonna Make You Dance." Piano and organ synthesizers set a noble tone for the romantic ballad "If You Were Mine," while gentle acoustic guitar play and a swaying melody effectively deflect the rather vengeful lyrics of a lover spurned on "If You Died I Wouldn't Cry Cause You Never Loved Me Anyway." Despite its derivative elements, Mya provides entertaining listening for contemporary R&B fans. --J.R. Reynolds

4 out of 5 stars GREAT DEBUT   May 7, 2005

I've always been a fan of Mya. I think she's one of the most talented female artist in entertainment today that is overlooked. Not only can she sing but girlfriend can dance. I'm glad that she's now getting into the acting scene. This us surely her best album to date. FEAR OF FLYING and MOODRING are solid albums but cannot compare to her debut. If Mya gets the credit she deserves as an entertainer, she will be unstoppable.

Average, run-of-the-mill, and rushed: these are the words that describe Mya's self-titled debut. There are a few stand-out tracks, but mostly filler. The album loses it's luster, vibrancy, and life after a couple of spins. It's one of those CDs that (after a month) will sit on your bookcase and collect dust. Recommended if desperate.

Really good album. Her two others were better but still this has great content, her voice really shines on ballads and great production.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent Self-Title Debut   December 15, 2001

This an outstanding debut by pop R&B superstar Mya. This collection of melodic tracks introduces a multi-talent who can sing, write and produce songs, and even designs her own clothes! This album is a balance of up-tempo tracks and ballads. It includes three singles: "It's All About Me", "Movin' On" and "My First Night With You", a beautiful ballad which was an excellent choice for a single, but a poor choice was made with the other two. I personally think the original version of "Movin' On" is better than the remix, which is the one that was released. Silkk The Shocker screwed that one up with annoying ad-libs, which totally ruined the whole song. And "It's All About Me" was an OK song, but the rest of the album is better. It was a mediocre song and a gimmick duet with Sisqo, which is probably why it was a single. The chorus sounded way to similar to Destiny's Child's "No, No, No". I think any other single what of been better. My favorite songs on this one are the opening track "What Cha Say" and the sassy duet with Missy "Bye Bye." She has a mellower vocal style and a different look back then than she does now. I think the black perm looks so unnatural, she looks better with straight or wavy lighter brown hair.

you would be surprised how good this cd actually is. at first when i got dis cd a couple of years ago, i only listened to all of the single tracks and skipped through the rest. but now dat mya has her sophomore album out and my love for mya has grown even bigger, i actually sarted to listen to dis cd more . . . and it's great. obviously the 3 singles she released ( movin on, it's all about me, and my first night with you ) are great songs . . . no question about dat . . . but as i listened to the cd, i realized dat mostly all of the rest of these tracks are also werthy 'nuff to be singles. what cha say is a kewl song wit a an upbeat tempo and party-type lyrics. keep on lovin me has an extremely clever chorus and the same phat beat dat's in "all about the benjamins." if you died i wouldn't cry cuase u never loved me n/e way is a pretty good song but kinda harsh (and also very fun to have people guess the letters in the name of the song when u play hangman) we're gonna make you dance pretty much makes you wanna dance. bye bye is a sick (in a good way) song wit tight lyrics and phat rap from missy elliot. anytime you want me is definitely one of the better songs on the cd and EXTREMELY catchy. don't be afraid is just a kewl song to sit back to and just chill wit your grrl/man. to make a VERY LONG story short, dis cd is hot and you gotsta pick it up . . .
