5 out of 5 stars Madonna's first true classic collaboration with Shep   March 20, 2004
    Kevin McKay (new york city)

In 1987 Shep Pettibone was THE remixer to have on your tracks. His remixes for New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle" and Pet Shop Boys' "What Have I Done To Deserve This?" are good examples, although there are many more. His work with Madonna is equally good: his mixes on "You Can Dance" are brilliant to say the least, his general overall production on "Vogue" and remix work on "Express Yourself" are legendary. Although not everyone is aware of this, Shep's mixes of "Causing a Commotion" also fall into this classic category.

The "Silver Screen Mix" is a nice extended and remixed version of the soundtrack album cut. However, it is not just an extended version of the "Silver Screen Single Mix," so it is important to get both long and short mixes (the short edit is available on "The Holiday Collection"- and nowhere else, I think). The dub version is, well, a dub version of the "Silver Screen Mix." Very enjoyable, even as dub versions go.

The true gem of this single is Shep's "Movie House Mix." I thought "Movie House" was just a general theater name for the mix, a la "Silver Screen Mix." It wasn't until I heard the track that I realized it's a movie HOUSE mix- one of the first house mixes of its kind. This mix does not feel like the nine-minute-plus mix that it is, it never gets boring or repetitive, unlike the current remixes out there (like anyone wants a fifteen minute trance mix of "I'm So Stupid" for example). This mix alone is worth the price of admission.

The last track is the LP version of "Jimmy Jimmy." This is identical to the version on "True Blue," but it's nice to also have it here.

Overall, this is not a cheesy 80's mix, but a harbinger of the great things to come for Madonna's music, and the world of dance music in general.

5 out of 5 stars Nobody does it better   December 4, 1999

Nobody I've heard does remixes quite as well as Madonna, and this CD is excellent evidence. All three remixes on this disc are superbly done, taking a song already in a class by itself and making it even better. The Silver Screen Mix has all the energy of the original and is a good 2 minutes longer, and the 10-minute Movie House Mix is a sheer masterpiece.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent especially the dub mix !   July 26, 2007

This is definitely one of the best re-releases of Madonna's classic 12 inches on CD. These German imports (a.k.a. the yellow cd-singles) released around 1995 are becoming harder to find by the minute. This one is definitely a classic, Causing a Commotion being one of Madonna's best dance (or "high-energy") songs of the 80's.

The three remixes proposed here are a real treat for the Madonna fan and beyond. Unlike some recent Madonna remixes, these actually do justice to the original version with an excellent extended mix (6:42), a dub mix (7:14) and a house mix (which clocks at over 9 minutes). The CD ends with "Jimmy Jimmy" from the True Blue album.

My personnal favorite is the dub mix, which is probably one of the best Madonna dubs out there. It is also an instrumental mix to sing along to, with full instrumental segments of the verses, the bridge and the chorus being included. Madonna's vocals kick in a few times ("I hope you find what you're looking for"...and so on.) Addictive!!

Needless to say, theses mixes rely heavily on synthesizers and feature typical vocal effects ("com-com-com-com-commotion"). If you like dance music from the 80's you won't be disappointed!! And the sound quality of this CD is cristal clear, which is great.

I also highly recommend the "Cherish" cd-single of the same series, which includes an extended version of the song, an edit version and the unreleased "Supernatural" from the Like a Prayer sessions.

    3 out of 5 stars Well...   October 10, 2007

The songs from "Who's That Girl" are far from my favorite Madonna songs, but I love Madonna and bought this simply to add to my Madonna collection. It has the house mixes on it, which are better than the album version. Great for club play.

    4 out of 5 stars Causing a commotion...   April 13, 2007

A good effort from Madonna. I was already a fan, but even in this day and age, she amazes me with what she has been able to accomplish! Four stars!
