Great album July 10, 2003 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This album is probably one of the best ive ever bought in my life. Ill review it song by song. 1.Sehnsucht 9/10:the title track. its kind of slow and it uses a lot more keyboard than most of the other songs. 2.Engel 9.5/10:its another slower song but one of my favorites 3.Tier 10/10:this songs got a great beat and catchy lyrics that make it one of my favorite songs of all time 4.Bestrafe Mich 9/10: its starts out kinda weird but builds up into a good song 5.Du Hast 10/10:the song that started rammstein's success in the U.S. very catchy song.its the kind that stays stuck in your head for hours 6.Buck Dich 10/10:very good song but the lyrics in english are uh interesting[in english Buck dich means "bend down"] 7.Spiel Mit Mir 8/10:very soft and slow song i normally dont like those kind of songs but this one is pretty good 8.Klavier 8/10:typical rammstein song, softer singing blasting chorus 9.Alter Mann 9/20:has great vocals 10.Eifersucht 10/10:very cool electronic song has great guitar, keyboard, everything 11. kuss Mich[Fellfrosch]6/10:for some reason i dont like this song as much as the others but its still ok and for the english tracks i would give them both a 7/10 because they are pretty good but not as good as the originals Overall this is a great album and if you like bands like Nine Inch Nails and KMFDM then i would highly recommend it.
Get the Sehnsucht cd without the english translations! July 27, 1999 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
If you want to know what Till is singing don't listen to the incorrect translations of Engel and Du Hast! Use your search engine and find the translations. They sound horrible in english! The music and english do not do well together even with Till's sexy voice. So get some other Sehnsucht bonous track and enjoy the power of Rammstein!
RAMMSTEIN- Another smash from the current industrial GODS. September 15, 2000 neocropht (South Jersey) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I first bought this album on the recommendation of a coworker. Bought it for 13$ though! The only bad thing about the album is the messed up English translations. "You Have" and "Angel" (aka "Du Hast" and "Engel") should have been left in German. Now the good stuff. The album opens with Sehnsucht, a great opener. Engel and Tier keep the adrenaline flow constant, and Bestrafe Mich calms the calamity down a little, but not enough for a lack of fun. Du Hast explodes the stereo flavor, then Buck Dich and Spiel Mit Mir bring you to the dark side of Rammstein. Klavier and Alter Mann calm the nerves just sweetly, letting you relax before the finale, Kuss Mich (Fellfrosch). Personally, I believe that the entire album just plain out rocks. The guitars are beautifully creative, the bass (while lacking slightly) keeps the flow steady, the drums and synths make the mix even more tasty, and Till's voice (as demonically crazed as it can sound at times) adds more to the mood (esp. Klavier and Spiel Mit Mir). If you do get this album (you WILL get Sehnsucht!!), I'd also recommend their first, Herzeleid, and the acclaimed Live Aus Berlin. When their next album comes out, you'd better get that too!

If you like German Rock or want to explore and try something new, this is the CD to buy.
Great disc, buy if you like modern metal at all. April 21, 2001 john turner (Baytown, TX USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
just some clarifications on the German: 'hast' is a homophone and a homonym for 2 words in german. They are the 2nd person singular forms of the verbs haben (to have) and hassen (to hate).'Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt' could be translated as "You have asked me and I haven't said" or "'You hate me?' you asked and I have not said". If you read it as 'have' then you can think of the overall meaning of the verse to be "You have me. You asked me (probably if I love you) but I haven't said." Or, on a more complex note, you could take the lines from "Du. Du hast. Du hast mich." to be hate, and then the "Du hast mich gefragt und ich hab nichts gesagt" to mean "You have asked me and I haven't said." Taken as a whole the essential meaning becomes 'you hate me because I haven't answered you' which would be very clever lyricly, creating multiple levels of meaning. But it could all be coincidence. It only gets weird because the English version lyrics create a problem. Besides, Tier (animal) is a much more fun!
