I've been collecting Queen for about six years, and I finally completed my CD collection with Queen in Nuce (for $9 at a collectors' store in New Orleans).
Although I'm shocked this CD costs $50 online, I will say that it's definitely worth it (I would have spent the extra money, had I not found it somewhere else).
I wouldn't say that this album is "for Queen fans only", as some of the previous reviewers did. It's an interesting listen, that could be enjoyed by anyone who enjoys obscure or even "glam" rock.

Personal favorites include: "I Can Hear Music" and "Step on Me".

As the second track states... it is "sweet, sweet music".

I absolutely loved each and every one of the tracks!
If you love QUEEN or simply enjoy listening to their music, you would love that one!

An early time, the very begining of Queen (Smile)and still wonderfull. A Hard Rock CD (a bit like 'Queen'- the band's 1st. album).

I strongly recommend it for hard-rock and quality-music lovers!!!

    An AMAZING experience!!

5 out of 5 stars Queen In Nuce   September 8, 2002

I would recomend this CD for collectors. Most of the songs are from the Smile (for those who don't know, the band that was before Queen). Members: Tim Staffel, Brian May, Roger Taylor and Freddie Mercury. First two tracks are from Freddie Mercury, although he used another name (Larry Lurex) on the single "I Can Hear Music" with "Going Back" on the b-side. So if you like early Queen or you are a Queen fan, i woild recoment this CD...

5 out of 5 stars Only for true fans   August 9, 1998

This is a great album, and definitely worth the money, but ONLY as a TRUE queen fan. Basically, this is the tracks recorded as Larry Lurex, Smile and the only recently released 'Mad the Swine'. If you don't know the significance of these songs, don't buy the album. If you do, however, this is a fascinating insight into the early music of one of the greatest rock bands ever.

This is a compilation of early Queen, Larry Lurex (a nom de plume for Freddie), and Smile, precursor to Queen. This is obviously a 1995 bootleg imported from Italy, but the laws there were more lenient on this kind of release (I also have a gray market Genesis pirate from there) before the EU came into play. The Lurex tracks are slowed down (an official solo Mercury box set corrected that). "Mad the Swine" fades in, unlike the legal 1991 B-side release. "Earth" was redone by Tim Staffell on his recent solo album, "Amigo", with Brian May guesting. Smile seem to dominate this album. At first, I assumed this was a normal album, but I had a lot to learn. This is really for experienced fans. Now I have a tribute show to get to.
