4 out of 5 stars I really wanna touch it!   February 18, 2003

Monifah is probably the most famous artist of the past decade that nobody knows. When you say "Monifah" the typical answer will be "umm who?" "she did the song Touch It" "oh! I love that song!" "Touch It" was the first single, and it went platinum, but what did this album do? It went Gold, but nobodies heard it. I find that weird. I own all of Monifah's albums, this one falls in the middle, both in releases (it's number 2 of 3) and quality. You can't deny her voice, but many will question her writers and some of her production. It's just not equiped to carry her. And unfourtinally as good as she is, she can't carry the low points. My problem with this album lies in the rappers. I don't Particularly like these pairing songs. They tend to be contrived and boring. "Queen Pen" pops up here a few times, she just doesn't do anything for me.
I still give this 4 stars, why? Because the good outweights the bad. "Monifah's Theme/Bad Girl" is just plain good. a hot dance beat, sure the lyrics are pretty typical. But Monifah sounds sassy here, she has a lot of style. "Suga Suga" is a breathtaking slow jam, Monifah sure knows how to slow it down. She sounds sexy sexy sexy here. "Monfah's Anthem/Bad Girl II" is horrible. The first is so nice, this one has Total and Queen Pen, and the beat is corny.
This is a above average sophmore release. Monifah is one of my favorite singers, maybe her fouth album they'll have figure out how to promote and market her. It shouldn't be that hard, seeing how she actually has talent.
    One can only hope.

2 out of 5 stars This CD has got only one good song...   January 11, 2004

..and that is "Touch it". It's good steady soul but basically pretty boring and unspectacular. Monifah sings as well as always . Unfortunately I see no real highlights. A good & steady soul album and a nice new gem for your collection, but nothing sizzling

4 out of 5 stars Good, But Debut was Better   October 21, 1999

Monifah continues to delight us with her musical gift. This CD shows a matured Monifah. No. 9 is a true hit. A must buy for Monifah lovers.....

4 out of 5 stars Knocked Out!   September 8, 1999

I bought this for the irresistible "Touch It," but that turned out to be the least impressive cut on what could be mistaken as a greatest hits collection. "What's the Deal" and "Watcha Gonna Do" get me bouncin', "Better Half of Me," "Would You" and "Have You Ever Been Loved" sweep me away, and "Suga Suga" just plain makes me weak. Monifah's debut album proved she had the talent, but here she's found the attitude (and the songwriters and producers - amazing!) to raise her above the pack. Keep leading, Mo. I'll follow! Peace. :-)

5 out of 5 stars Crazy tight!   April 5, 1999

This CD is the sh**... How can you all be doggin on it, if you haven't even sat down, and listened to it? It may be true that maybe some of the statements in the songs (i.e. "Touch it" or "Bad Girl") may be taken more as a "I only want to have sex" kind of thing but if you listen to the soul, the inner meaning to the songs themselves (i.e. "Have you ever been loved" or "Falling") then how could you really understand the positivity of this CD??? It's not saying that you should go out there and mate like Rabbits... It's showing some of the sides (i.e. sexuallity, spirituality) of herself that maybe less-self-confident people would not be so apt to say... Music is an expression of everything about the musician's self, EVERYTHING, not just, if just being so limited, of thier sexuality. "Touch it" is a great song, with a beat that's fun and moves you. Those who will dog "Mo'Hogany" either 1. Have only listened to one or two songs (that were more-than-likely misunderstood by them), 2. Don't have the ability to show sides of themselves like Monifah can, 3. Have no taste in good R&B, or 4. Pick and match the above reasons.
