A great LTJ CD April 27, 2000 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
I have seen LTJ at live shows, and this CD shows how energetic they are onstage and in there music. Sure a lot of people think "LTJ ARE SELLOUTS!" but actually LTJ are still pretty loyal to their fans. They still do all their shows, booking, still doing indie labels and merch is always run by them, not Capitol. And usually people ask me "who the fuck is LTJ?" See? But anyway, this CD is great. To the blaring horns to the roaring guitar. Chris (guitarist) does a pretty good job of keeping everything exciting. Roger (bass) keeps the funky sound and beat. Vinnie (drums) excellent drumming at great speeds. The horn section is great, now with two t-bones their sound is unique. Losing Streak is good too, but that's a different story. Are they sellouts? NO! The band is just expressing their thoughts in their own way and their own feelings. They're not sellouts, just plain ol' LESS THAN JAKE.*NOTE: Buy this CD. Listen to LIBERTY CITY, METALHEADS, BORING TOWN, CHEESE, and SCOTT FARCUS. I think these are the best tracks.
Not the same LTJ October 31, 1999 8 out of 15 found this review helpful
I picked this CD up and listened to it, at first it was really good, but then I got bored. This CD doesn't have the renewing quality of Pezcore, Losers,Kings and Losing Streak. From a standpoint of view, this is a really good album, if the band wasn't LTJ. LTJ's great, but they've put out a lot better stuff than this, also I miss jessica, (no offense to Pete). For anyother band, this would be a great album, but the standards are higher when your LTJ, their still great. But pick up all the albums before this one before you pick up Rockview, oh and be warned, true to it's name, rockview is more about rock than punk/ska. Not that that's bad, but the horns on it aren't as blaring as in the previous albums. Anyway, this is still a good album, my fav songs are Big Crash and Al's War and as far as message, this is the best of the lot, so it's in the middle, hence 3 stars
Rockview/Losing Streak = two different CDs November 16, 1999 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
Lotsa people compare Rockview and Losing Streak, but they're not really that comparable. While Rockview has some really stirring songs, it doesn't have the catchy, high energy tune that Losing Streak captured so well; however, Rockview is a well crafted album that shows a more mature side of LTJ. Great songs like "Al's War" and "History of a Boring Town" (and the bass opening to "Last out of Liberty City"!) get you going, and the inlet with the lyrics is a great comic-layout. If you're looking for Losing Streak, you're better off with earlier LTJ releases, but if you want some damn fine music, pick this up.
Punk rock, without the usual imalwaysangryatsociety attitude June 29, 1999 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
The other day, I went to my local Circut City, and forked over the $13 to buy LTJ's Hello Rockview. Just a little while before, I had bought Pennywise's "Full Circle", and enjoyed it, except all the songs seemed to just drone on about rage, war, and other negative topics. With "Hello Rockveiw", I saw that there are punk groups who still care about girls, friends, being worried about getting the crap beat out of you in an alley, and, uh, er, guys named cheez..... Less Than Jake is one of these groups, along with Blink 182, and for the softer minds, Green Day. Do yourself a favor, and liven up your day. Buy this cd! There is no excuse! All the tracks are wonderful, such as: Help Save the Youth of America From Exploding, and Richard Allen George...No it's Just Cheez. Catch them at WARPED TOUR '99!
Hello Rock You and Your Mother June 11, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
A lot of these reviews compare this disc to Losing Streak. This comparison is fair, of course. Losing Streak was a great ska/punk album and definitely put LTJ on the map. It most definitely had more ska on it, which gave it a certain sound that many people liked a lot. The band probably could have made another record just like Losing Streak, but they didn't. they evolved, and combined the ska and punk elements of their music to make a truly special sound that wreaks of nostalgia and high school. Songs like "History of a Boring Town" and "Danny Says" and "Last one out of Liberty City" make me get goosebumps and think about good times and good friends. "Al's War" reminds me of my own growing up and trying to get away from my parents. Basically, every song hits some chord with my heart and reminds me of my own teenage life. That's why this CD is so good. The music is fun, not depressed about lost girls and good times. They lyrics are true, simple and tell it like it is. I can see myself listening to this CD as a parent and quietly smiling about my life and all the good times because the good really does outway the bad, and LTJ embody that philosophy very well.
