Great soundtrack, but missing a few songs May 24, 2000 Kristin (Raleigh, NC) 21 out of 21 found this review helpful
I saw "The Cutting Edge" in the theater when it first came out, and I fell in love with the movie and the music. I love this soundtrack, I'm grateful to MGM & Rykodisc for releasing it, and I hope that no one views the rest of my comments as negative, because it really is wonderful. I just wanted to let fans of the movie know that having seen a list of the intended songs before the CD was released, I know the soundtrack is missing more than two songs. Besides "The Race" and "Diddley Daddy," which have already been mentioned by other reviewers, the CD was also supposed to include "Love Shack," "Walking the Dog," "Auld Lang Syne," "Lauretta," and maybe one or two more. I'm not sure where "Lauretta" is in the movie, but I know that the other three I mentioned are heard briefly at the New Year's Eve Party. I'm not sure if the ommissions were made so that they could make it an enhanced CD or not, but I do wish they had included all the songs. Regardless of these omissions, I believe that this CD is a great companion to the movie, and I enjoy cranking it up in my car. :-) Maybe if we all express our opinions to Rykodisc and MGM, we can get them to release another disc with these missing songs plus some of the instrumental songs heard in the movie but not listed in the movie credits. I hope everyone enjoys this CD as much as I have!
Loved this CD July 13, 2000 Rob (Queens, NY) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
First saw this movie on video back in '92 and remember it being cute. But fast forward to '00 and it was fantastic. Just had to have the soundtrack as it got me really motivated while watching the movie. Was it the music or Moira Kelly in tights? All I know is that the music was for sale, she wasn't. The only drawback to the CD was that it didn't include the song that they played while they were playing hockey with each other. Other than that, excellent music and the original video trailer that they included was a nice touch.
Finally! I found the soundtrack for the best movie ever!!! December 29, 2001 Amanda (Shoshone, Idaho) 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE The Cutting Edge. I saw this movie the first night of its release, and three more times after that while it was still in the theaters. I bought the video, and just received the DVD for Christmas. One thing that has always bugged me is that I know the first time I saw the movie, it showed Doug reaching up to catch Kate from his view, and the next weekend when I saw it again, that scene was gone!!! To me, it was the best scene in the movie. Now I know I wasn't crazy, because on the movie trailer it shows that scene. I just really wish they hadn't taken it out of the actual movie. (I know of two other scenes that were deleted, too. I wonder if it's possible to get the original version of the movie anywhere.) Anyway, I still watch the movie all the time, and can basically repeat all the dialogue from memory. My brother has lived with me for about a year, and he knows it as well as almost anyone now, too! It's a movie that both guys and women can love! To my way of thinking, this soundtrack is one of the best CDs ever. I love listening to it! (Especially "Turning Circles" and "Feels Like Forever.") I can now take the movie with me everywhere!!!
Fantastic! November 22, 1999 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
If you love the movie, this soundtrack is a must have! I listen to it all the time. I'm so glad MGM decided to release it. The enhanced CD version comes with the theatrical trailer that was shown to promote the movie which is fun to watch.
oh-my-god-its-here! December 17, 1998 tara_hayes@hotmail.com (Seattle, Washington) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't believe that this soundtrack is finally available. I have been searching for it since the movie came out and have asked innumerable sales people about it. I thought I would ultimately have to result to pasting together a tape of my own. The Cutting Edge is one of the staples of my movie collection, largely because of its music. The songs were well chosen for the different scenes and the overall collection has great variety. There are some songs that I like to sing or dance to (especially Ride On Time) and there are others that are great to just listen to. This CD will be a favorite of anyone who loves the movie.
