Amazon.com Cypress Hill is either hip-hop's most secretly talented band or its luckiest. How else do you explain four albums--Cypress Hill, Black Sunday, III (Temple of Boom), and now IV--over seven years that all use the same rote formula? DJ Muggs hooks up the dusty dungeon beats, filled with slow, rolling bass lines and dirtied drum breaks. B-Real revs up his nasal flow and spins yarns about (a) why police suck, (b) why Cypress can't be screwed with, and (c) marijuana, marijuana, marijuana. Did we mention that they talk a lot about weed? IV offers no new surprises, but Cypress faithful won't be disappointed. --Oliver Wang

Cypress Keeps It Real on IV February 11, 2000 kt (north kakalaki) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
The months flow by, seasons change, and rappers blow up---only to disappear seemingly overnight. Such is the nature of the hip hop industry...what is hot today is old news next week.Cypress Hill are the exception to this trend. Back in 1991 they hit the scene in a big way with their first joint, containing the classics "How I Could Just Kill a Man" and "Hand On The Pump". Their latest release, IV, does not disappoint. The tracks are a lot deeper, and the flow of B Real and Sen is tight. The song topics don't deviate too much; there is plenty of cop-hating, weed smoking, and automatic weapons. The thing is, Cypress knows how to come correct and make you play the cd til you know every word. Some of the best songs on this album are "Tequila Sunrise", "Lightning Strikes", and "Dead Men Tell No Tales". If you like Cypress even just a little bit, go get this ablum.
Vintage Cypress Hill November 2, 2004 Pete 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is some classic Cypress Hill. There first 4 albums are all classics. Cypress Hill & Black Sunday are the 2 best, but this is probably my personal favorite. They come so hard here and do not sell out here. No commercial crap. You want commercial crap go to your 50cent's, your eminem's, your g-units, your d12s, your jay-z's. You aint gonna find it here. What you will find here is some REAL rap. They come out their hardest here, and stay underground, they keep this album the "real" cypress hill. On latter albums, they change their style too much. You want Cypress Hill at their best, then cop their first 4 albums, this is a good start. Best songs are Looking Through the Eye of a Pig, Dr Greenthumb, Tequila Sunrise, Nothin' To Lose, and the classic Checkmate, arguably one of their best songs ever. Every other song on this album are straight fire, the few i just listed are my favorites. Get this if u havent already, coz an essential classic for rap fans to own.

CHECKMATE FOOL! This was one of the many lines from this record I kept screaming three days after it came out. B-Real and Muggs go all out here, it's not as laidback as Temples of Boom was, it's a lot more song-orientated. My favorites are "Looking through the Eye of a Pig", "Checkmate", "From the Window of my Room", "Steel Magnolia", "Tequila Sunrise" ( a KILLER song ), "Dr. Greenthumb", "Clash of the Titants" and "Lightning Strikes". There aren't any bad songs in here. Although this predates "Skull&Bones", there is a lot of rock influence: "Riot Starter" and "Lightning Strikes" are backgrounded by Guitars, "Tequila Sunrise" has an almost folk-song feel to it. It's the Hill's most diverse album yet, but don't worry, you still get the Skillz and Thrillz that made Cypress Hill one of the best Hip-Hop Crews out there. What are you waiting for?
Cypress Hill IV - The Best Yet January 29, 2000 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This album has it all. From the chilling "Checkmate" to the humorous "Dr. Greenthumb" this album is a must for anyone who likes rap, Cypress Hill, weed, and hates cops. Definently the best Cypress Hill album ever. Especially great to crank up if you have a pig living next door.
