Amazon.com Rumors of a greatest-hits package had been flying, but as millions of converts held their breath, Whitney Houston headed into the studio only to emerge--amid a flurry of drama screaming "diva" (a live Web broadcast of the international press conference revealing the album, and a veil of secrecy shrouding the new material)--with her first nonsoundtrack album in eight years. So is it worth all the hype and hoopla? Probably. There are no real surprises (typical ballads such as "You'll Never Stand Alone," obligatory writer-producer-singer cameos from Babyface, Wyclef Jean, Missy Elliott, Faith Evans, and Kelly Price--this time in a worthy attempt to slot into the late-'90s soul scene), but she does try to defend her marriage on the Elliott-produced "In My Business." Elliott's other effort, the slow-burning "Oh Yes" is a high point, but the hands-down driving force of this record is the multiplatinum, multi-octave power pairing of Houston with Mariah Carey on "When You Believe." --Rebecca Wallwork

She Has Defined R&B Music, What More Do You Need? December 5, 1999 David M. Sulkers (Winnipeg, MB Canada) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I have been a long-standing fan of Mr.s Whitney for years now, and for great reason. She is one of the greatset POP/R&B singers on the market. Her work is always origional, though she may not write any of it, she does choose songs that focus on her voice rather than the image or the appeal. This si exactly what this album does. There are some beat heavey groves on this disc, and with Whitney's beautiful, full voice we get the whole package. 'It's Not Right But It's Okay' already a single of the past (I think No.4 on the charts) is a great up-tempo song, filled with wonderful harmony and lyrics. 'When You Believe' her duet with my fav. Mariah Carey, is a great song that should have been bigger than it was. Because it wasn't /mainstream' pop it didn't get its play time, which is strange 'cause between the two of these diva's (I hate that word!) they have had 25 No.1 hits and 91 weeks at No.1. Go figure? The title track and 'If I Told You That' both shine as does 'In My Buisiness' with Missy Elliot. The ballad 'I Learned From The Best' shows Whitney in top vocal form, and one can feel the music rather than just hear it. There are only a few artists out there who go to another level when singing (Michael Jackson being one, and possibly Celine or Mariah) and they take you with them. Great song. 'Oh Yesy' had suggestive lyrics, but you know what, it shines too! 'Until You Come Back' is a great love-huts balld, as is 'I Bow Out'. This whole damn CD is great, from start to finish, you don't get that very often. I listen to every song on this labum, they never get boring, repetitive or repulsive. Their great! She's done it again! Like on 'The Bodygurad' or 'I'm Your Baby Tonight' or 'Whitney Houston' this one shines fuller and brighter than even those did. Great CD! Five out of Five.
Her best work since her The Bodyguard November 16, 1999 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
After enduring years of listening to the same predictable material from Whitney, she managed to surprise me with the release of My Love Is Your Love. The album is full of surprises, she was able to do different musical genres and still sound incredible! She has a more hip, R&B/hip-hop sound to this album, and the catchy, R&B/hip-hop tracks like "If I Told You That", "In My Business" and "Get It Back" are great beat-driven tracks, but the beat doesn't overshadow her incredible voice. She also has a great deal of raggae influence on the title track, which is one of my favorite songs on the album. The too-hyped duet with Mariah Carey didn't impress me, that has got to be the weakest point on this album. There are some R-Kelly-style R&B jams as well like the hit "Heartbreak Hotel" with Faith Evans and Kelly Price, and the Missy Elliot-produced "Oh Yes"---my favorite track on the album, her voice sounds rich and crystal clear on that song. For vintage Whitney fans, there are still those powerhouse ballads like "Until You Come Back" that sounds similar to "I Have Nothing", the touching "You'll Never Stand Alone", "I Bow Out" and the incredible "I Learned from the Best"---her new single. This album doesn't alienate any genre without seemingly trying to do so, unlike Mariah Carey. I absolutely love it and it's probably her best work ever!
It's All That We've Been Waiting For!!! April 7, 1999 Ben McDermott (Fort Erie Ontario Canada) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Whitney Hosuton does it again. After eight years without a solo release, she comes back with an incredible album full of touching ballads and great hip hop flavoured tracks. On My Love Is Your Love Whitney works with a variety of music biggest produces to create the album of her life. Key tracks on the album include "Heartbreak Hotel" her recent top ten with Kelly Price and Faith Evans. This is the most soulful single in years and is the best example of an R@B classic. Whitney's oscar award duet with Mariah Carey "When You Believe" is a powerful song that did not get the attention it desereved from radio. Whitney's voice is stronger on the track but Carey delievers an equally emotional performance on a song that should have been a number one smash. "If I Told You That" produced by the great Rodney Jerkins is a bouncy hip hop number which will appeal to a new generation of Whitney fans. Diane Warren lends three tracks to the album including "I Bow Out" which is produced by both Jerkins and Babyface (Can You Believe It). The song's incredible bass line will have you hooked instantly. Another Warren track is "I Learned From The Best" produced by David Foster. It is a grand ballad which features Whitney in all her glory, however the track maybe a bit over-produced. The album's best track Warren's "You Never Stand Alone". It is a warm ballad full of lush strings and Whitney delievering her most laid back perforance since "You Were Loved" from The Preacher's Wife". This album has something for everybody and Whitney proves that she is still one of the best in the business.

A Very Different Whitney-Vocally Amazing November 1, 2004 Niecy (Minerva Park, OH United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a fan of Whitney Houston. When I purchased this album I didn't feel immediately in love with it. Over time it reflects another signature moment of this Amazing Talent Woman. There is no female vocalist today can touch Whitney. The only rare exceptions would be Fantasia, Monica and Mariah Carey, Shanice Wilson, Faith Hill, Faith Evans, Patti Labelle. I mean a vocalist that captures you with there vocals and you can actually cry when you hear them sing a song because the have capture the essence it touches your soul and heart as well. You can simply listen to their voice as they sing. That is simply a God Gifted talent. Some people have to work on it and develop that ability. There are not many female vocalist are in this ladies league. This album reflects a diffrent Whitney and it works for her. I love all the songs. It shows her diversity. She reflects her feelings and she captures it very well with this album. Some fans might be hestiate to embrace this other Whitney but, if you love her vocals it will grow on you over time. I love the following songs and why
1. It's Not Right But It's Okay -Glorious
2. Heartbreak Hotel - Faith Evans -She in these amazing talented ladies turn this song into anthem. Amazing vocals from Whitney, Faith and Kelly.
3. My Love Is Your Love - Whitney - amazing vocals
4. When You Believe - Mariah Carey Signature Whitney it really captures both of these talented ladies to come together in sing amazing song together.
5. If I Told You That -Attitude Whitney, vocally she present her self well
6. In My Business - Missy Elliott -Attitude Whitney, she delivers fiercely and vocally she captures this song. You can feel her pain that this is her signature song for this album
7. I Learned from the Best -Great Song and Vocally Wonderful
Whitney is Amazing and this album reflects her feelings at the time. I would encourage any fan of hers or someone who is looking to hear amazing talent to purchase. This is another side of this Amazing talent woman.
