5 out of 5 stars Baby One More Time - the best debut single of the 1990's!   February 1, 2003

One Sunday afternoon in January 1999 I saw a video by a new female singer - Baby One More Time by Britney Spears. At first I didn't like it; I thought she was too much of an attention seeker. The video certainly made an impression, however. Over the weeks that followed I gradually began to get used to the song and before I knew it, I loved it! Baby One More Time was released at the back end of February 1999 and went straight to No.1 the week it was released selling a staggering 470,000 copies in its first week in the UK alone! This was by far the fastest and biggest selling debut single of all-time in the UK. The song went straight to No.1 and sold 1,450,000 copies in total, making it easily the biggest selling single of 1999 - and is currently No.24 on the list of the biggest selling singles in the UK of all-time. The song was certainly catchy - and so strong for a debut single. The video is probably the most cleverly made of the 1990's; Britney had the concept of her in at school in a Catholic schoolgirls' outfit. The video appealed to girls who could identify with Britney's need to break out at school and dance around in the corridors. It also appealed to the men who were transfixed with this "vision of beauty" on their TV screens...

Baby One More Time was written by pop wizard and hit maker Max Martin. The song begins with a superb and instantly recognisable beat - the three strong piano notes that dominate the song. Britney's voice is very good on Baby One More Time - she gets to showcase her whole range. The verses are about a girl who has let her boyfriend go and that she wants him back. She is mourning him in the verses, before building up the bridge by singing about how she wishes she could have him back before bursting out into an electrifying chorus with superb beats, melodies and one amazingly powerful bassline. The song has some superb lyrics and Britney really sells them from the bottom of her (broken) heart - no pun intended; From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart, song from Britney's debut album Baby One More Time. 1999 was a great year for Britney - her debut album sold a whopping 20 million copies worlwide, she won 4 MTV Europe Music Awards, had No.1's all over the world and performed at sell-out concerts the world over. Those days seem to be gone, but if you want to re-live those memories of just exactly who was the most popular fermale artist of 1999, buy Baby One More Time now!

I just bought the Britney Spears CD a couple of weeks ago, and I love it. My friend Kristi and I always dance to her songs when we hang out, and it is the CD that I always have playing in my car. The CD is just full of great songs that I think everyone can relate to in one way or another.

5 out of 5 stars Britney Spears, heir-apparent to Whitney   July 13, 1999

Okay, I admit that there is a huge gap between the vocal stylings of Whitney and Britney, but B is right on her heals. Those who say she is just another spice girl or cut from the same branch of the boy bands should take a closer listen. She has the talent of Whitney and the range of Mariah (except she can, unlike M, vocalize at the higher octives). She can go high or low in a song, but wherever she goes within it the sound still has the soul of a classic R&B artist with the flare of youthful exuberance. From "...Baby" to "The Beat Goes On" Britney proves she is a talent to be reckoned with. Britney Spears is here to stay. An those who think that "E-mail My Heart" is irrelevant, just think how you posted your review and how your kids talk to each other.

3 out of 5 stars Better off buying the album or U.S. Single   April 24, 1999

Although I love "Baby One More Time...", the price of this import single isn't really worth it. What it has on it is the radio version of "Baby One More Time...", an instrumental version, "Autumn Goodbye", and a remix. The remix isn't really good. It sounds empty and doesn't make good use of the song. For the about the same price, you could buy the full Britney Spears album.

5 out of 5 stars This Version of The Single Is Good   April 24, 1999

It includes the radio mix, a instrumental mix, Autumn Goodbye (not on U.S. album) and David Ospirina Mix Club Mix. I would recommend to any Britney Spears fan this single.
