5 out of 5 stars Single is Bliss!   November 28, 1999

"Bliss" is the first single that preceded the release of Tori's newest album, TO VENUS AND BACK. Although I embrace all of Tori's musical choices, I must admit that I was irked at first by the synthetic beat that flows throughout the title track as well as the fact that sometimes the other instruments mask her trademark piano. However, as I listened to the song more and more, it seemed to fit and I love it. "Bliss" is accompanied by two live tracks, "Hey Jupiter" (from the album BOYS FOR PELE) and "Upside Down" (a B-side on the US "Winter" single and the UK "Me and A Gun"/"Silent All These Years" singles). The live tracks truly show Tori's brilliant talent, particularly with the beautiful (but shortened!) "Hey Jupiter." There is a rather amusing introduction to "Upside Down," and although the track is performed wonderfully, she performed it much better live on the UK "Past the Mission" single. These live tracks are definitely worth the six bucks -- isn't everything by Tori worth it? I give this single the highest rating.

5 out of 5 stars Three great songs make this a must-buy Tori CD!   September 14, 1999

"Bliss" itself is classic Tori style, but has a very powerful and beautiful chorus that will stick with you and make the single worthwhile. But what makes this CD so incredible is the great live version of "Hey Jupiter," and even better is the hard-to-find live "Upside Down" which ranks among Tori's greatest songs ever. You must buy this single!

5 out of 5 stars love song   February 21, 2002

"Bliss" is, to me, a beautiful love song from Tori to her husband. When I got the single, I played it over and over. I'm still not tired of this song. My favorite line is `so maybe we're a Bliss of another kind,' because it reminds me of my true love. We have a very special Bliss of our own.

The live versions of "hey jupiter" and "upside down" on this single are simply enchanting! I just love to hear Tori and her piano. I enjoy her with her band, but hearing her perform solo is a delightful treat.

4 out of 5 stars Off to a great start with "Bliss"   September 14, 1999

"Bliss" perpetuates Tori's unique sound with a very moving and catchy chorus that will haunt your mind for days after first hearing it. The new album is off to a wonderful start with this beautiful and powerful song.

4 out of 5 stars "Bliss" sounds familiar, but buy it for the live tracks.   September 8, 1999

I've just finished listening to the Bliss maxi-single, and it's true, as some of the other reviewers have said, that "Bliss" has that signature Tori sound. (To me, it's reminiscent of some of the material on Choirgirl - though it's still a solid single in its own right.) However, the live tracks make this a CD one you won't want to miss - especially considering that "Upside Down" is included. (To my knowledge, this one has only shown up on one other maxi-single and never on an LP!)
