Amazon.com Does the world really need the glorious pop gems of Abba to be slavishly rerecorded by a bunch of Swedish teenagers? The answer in this case is no. The A*Teens alter the near-perfect disco anthems with only hints of more modern, high-tech tweaks. By staying true to the tunes, the A*Teens are really just a tribute band, lacking in any imagination, irony, or insight into how to introduce such songs as "Mamma Mia" and "Dancing Queen" to the next generation. Those familiar with Bjorn, Agnetha, Frida, and Benny, after all, are probably already familiar with Gold, which showcases most of these tracks and renders The Abba Generation redundant. And those who can't stomach the sugar-coated sprightliness of "Take a Chance on Me" wouldn't touch this tribute with an old platform shoe, anyway. Skip the substitutes and go for the original. --Heidi Sherman

MAMMA MIA! July 5, 2000 46 out of 55 found this review helpful
Well, the only song that I liked by ABBA was Dancing Queen. Well, I was at a local music store and I saw a Dancing Queen single by the A Teens. I wasn't sure if it was the same song, but I picked it up anyway. I played it in my car and was blown away. They did a good job keeping it sounding alot like the original, but gave it a modern fling also. I went back to the store and bought the full length. I was very impressed by the the cd. It was awesome. From beginning to the end it was awesome. I couldn't stop tapping my feet. There are more than just looks to this group. They have something. They are gonna be big. The songs are so dance floor friendly. Mamma Mia, Gimme Gimme Gimme (my fave), SOS, Dancing Queen, and Take A Chance are the best songs on this cd, and the rest are just wonderful. IF you buy it, you will not be disappointed.
IS ABBA BACK! January 4, 2000 36 out of 43 found this review helpful
On my way home form dinner one night i heard this really cool song called "Mamma Mia." To tell you the truth i first thought that it was a new VengaBoys song or something, but with a little research on the big "www" i found this very talented group "The A-Teens" (please go to their page www.a-teens.com -k-) later that week i found them and later bought an import single and of coaarse fell in love! so i decided to buy the album and let me tell you, i haven't listened to anything since! The cd "Abba Generation" is PACKED WITH GREAT #1 HITS. Like, "The name of the game," "Our last summer," "Take a chance on me," and much more great ABBA hits. Even my mom likes them and always ask to borrow the cd! So i guess that's all...but go and buy this cd now
Absolutely Wonderful! July 25, 2000 34 out of 38 found this review helpful
Don't be fooled by the negative amazon review. I've heard Abba, and these teenagers are just as good in my opinion! They sing a little faster, and give it a modern beat, which is why it is such a seller! 1. Mamma Mia - This song has been a hit, and I can see why! Catchy tune and lyrics, and you just have to sing! 2. Gimme Gimme Gimme (A man after midnight) - Another one of those songs you just have to sing to. Sends your foot tapping, and very catchy! 3. Super Trouper - This song gets me motivated and feeling happy. Great song! 4. One of us - I absolutely loooove this song! It's my favorite! It stuck in my head for hours, this is a great song. 5. Voules-Vous - I didn't like this song very much, and I didn't really in the original either. No comment. 6. SOS - I didn't like this song much either. 7. Dancing Queen - No wonder it's been a hit! It's sung a little faster than the original, but I like this better. How can anyone *not* sing this song? 8. Take a chance on me - This is a nice song worth hearing. 9. Lay all your love on me - This is nice song, and they sing well IMO. 10. The Name of the Game - I love this song too. Nice lyrics and sounds pleasing to the ear. 11. Our Last Summer - Another one of my favorites, it's a song I love to listen to. All in all, this is a great CD, I was very happy with it. Very catchy tunes which would appeal to most teenagers now a days, and it's not a waste of money. I give it a five star.
If you can't dance to this, check yourself into a morgue! December 27, 1999 33 out of 36 found this review helpful
Before listening to this disc, you should be a little open minded. This is NOT ABBA, so if you're expecting to hear ABBA, you will more than likely be disappointed. But if you love dance music, and love ABBA, this disc will absolutely work for you! My biggest pet peeve about ABBA cover groups has always been the loss of integrity from the original songs, but the A-Teens hold on to that integrity very well and have even managed to enhance the orignals for the better in most cases. My biggest wish is for groups who insist on remaking ABBA songs to please add value to the music, and the A-Teens have more than exceeded that expectation for me. This ranks very high with me, along with my other favourite ABBA cover band Abbacadabra. While Abbacadabra does a better job on some of the songs, A-Teens makes up for it in others. It all depends on what you like to hear. As a DJ, I always determine what to play based on the crowd. If the crowd is younger, I'll play A-Teens. If older, I'll play Abbacadabra. But in either case, I will play A-Teens' Super Trooper and Mamma Mia, for they just plain rock! You won't be disappointed with this disc. Get up and dance to this: if you don't, you must be dead!
awesome dance music November 28, 1999 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
this is a great cd for people who love dance music or love ABBA or both. well ABBA purists may not like it, since techinically this stuff isn't really original, but it's definitely fun dance music and it'll get you moving. Marie and Sara have great voices. The group overall is just so cute and adorable, though I think Amit is my personal fave, just cuz he's so darn cute.
