    Editorial Reviews:

Atlanta hit maker Jermaine Dupri knows exactly what he's doing with his all-male quartet Jagged Edge: combining old-school soul with a G's sensibility and focus on a topic that everyone can relate to, love. On their sophomore disc, J.E. Heartbreak, the four young men prove that their sweet, gentle voices can be as provocative as a lover's soft caress. The ballad-heavy album features the guitar-tinged "Healing" and "He Can't Love U," a plea to a female who should rid herself of her undeserving lover. While slow jams are clearly Jagged Edge's specialty, uptempo tracks such as "Keys to the Range" and "Did She Say" (which utilizes the lighthearted flute loop from the Beatnuts' "Off the Books") demonstrate their ability to be slightly rugged and rough, making the group's moniker incredibly fitting. --Celine Wong

5 out of 5 stars The only thing wrong with this album is the title.   March 2, 2000

Jermaine Dupri has done it again ladies and gentlemen. Jagged Edge has come with a strong second album. The 1st, "A Jagged Era", came with "The Way That You Talk", "The Rest Of Our Lives" and the classic "I Gotta Be". "J.E. Heartbreak" has the same formula but Jagged Edge does a better job of presenting it this time around. With Jermaine Dupri you know you're going to have the fast songs. " Keys To The Range", "Did She Say" and "Girl Is Mine" w/Ja-Rule are all examples of this. This time around, however, even with "I Gotta Be" on the last album, Jagged Edge brings the slow jams and mid-tempo songs, possibly better than they ever will again. "He Can't Love You" the current single is a perfect example, as well as, "Let's Get Married", "Promise", "Healing" and "True Man". I'm not saying that Jagged Edge didn't put forth the effort last time but it will be evident after you listen to this album that they spent extra time in the studio. "J.E. Heartbreak" is definitely one of the best R&B albums out now.

5 out of 5 stars J.E. Heartbreak: As Good As Their Debut Album   March 13, 2000

I bought the J.E. Heartbreak CD based on the few samples I was able to hear prior to purchase. This slickly produced album actually surpasses the great job that Jagged Edge did on their first album. The material is stronger, more mature, more consistent and is an overall excellent product. The harmonizing, rhythmic, and catchy songs are what captures me. The songs are hip yet classic and not as trendy as you'd think a young group such as Jagged Edge might perform. The music is so moving I bounce in my seat listening to this CD and I replay certain songs over and over again. Favorites include: He Can't Love U, True Man, Lace, and Promise. Everything is highly listenable. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars JE is breaking hearts all over again!   January 18, 2000

The new sophomore effort from this talented male quartet is a big step up from their debut album, "A Jagged Era". The new album boasts fresh, new lyrics that all are very powerful and full of emotion. The latest single "He Can't Love You" is only one of the wonderful ballads in this album, like "Let's Get Married", which the title tells all, "Promise", all about devotion, and "Healing", that has a Marvin Gaye-type of feel to it. "JE Heartbreak" also offers some uptempo tracks like blazin' "Girl Is Mine" with rapper Ja Rule and "Keys To The Range". Another interesting song is "Lace You", meaning once you get laced by them, you won't ever wanna leave. Overall, very solid R&B album with plenty of songs for people who are in relationships to relate to.

5 out of 5 stars NO ONE DOES IT BETTER!   January 20, 2000

"Heartbreak" is honestly the best R&B album I have ever heard in my life. These guys are untouchable in their field. Ironically, the group they got the album name "Heartbreak" from, New Edition, used to be my favorite group. I did not think anyone could replace them until I heard Jagged Edge's material. Every song has the potential to be a hit single and I just can't hear the CD enough. It is the first time I bought a CD 3 times . One for the house, car and girlfriend. Jagged Edge is definitely on their way to stardom. I did'nt think they could top their last album, which is also a classic, but they did. They're sound and style is unmatched. Keep bringin' it fellas and I'll keep buyin' it!

This CD is definetley classic Jagged Edge. It's everything you probably expected and more if you purchased "A Jagged Era" (Debut Album). Filled with a lot of sweet love songs dealing with the realities of love and commitment--from a man's point of view. Nonetheless, they deliver a lot of catchy, rough uptempo beats for those who want some hip-hop/r&b tunes... These are four very talented brothers who seem to have the special gift of making timeless music. Something we'll all be listening to for years to come !
