Amazon.com It seems that all one has to do in R&B is maintain the status quo and the fans will open their hearts and wallets. Critics might yearn for innovation, but as song after song parades by in a blurring montage of predictability, it would appear that simply coloring within the lines is what the public wants. Into this realm walks Dru Hill as singer Sisqo with his maiden solo effort. Arguments will now be heard about how a solo record from the lead singer of an otherwise anonymous group differs from a record from said anonymous group. Who cares? Sisqo can sing and work the emotional heart out of the songs on Unleash the Dragon. We're talking getting the job done right and within those confines Sisqo does that, with an appealing growl and love-man swagger. --Amy Linden

SISQO continues the Legacy January 19, 2000 DK (NC) 42 out of 44 found this review helpful
Written and produced primarily by the man himself, Sisqo's "solo album" continues the great Dru Hill Legacy (grassroots Dru fans ... pun intended!). This album sounds a lot like Dru Hill's second album "Enter the Dru" with a few more edgy Sisqo-esque songs like "Thong Song," "Unleash the Dragon", "U R Everything Remix," and "Got to Get it" -- all of which are blazin'. But the CD is also mixed with the deep "Incomplete" written by Montell Jordan and the even deeper "How Can I Love You 2Nite" written and produced by the best hidden talent in R&B -- Nokio (along with a little writing input from labelmate Case). *Mark these words when Noke's album drops Summer 2000!* These songs along with the rest of the CD sound like tracks 5-17 on "Enter the Dru" -- soulful with lots of emotion, smooth beats, and everything else you loved about "Beauty" and "These Are the Times." Sisqo's "solo" album doesn't progress as being any better than "Enter the Dru," nor does it validate Sisqo as "being Dru Hill" as many like to think, but if you just can't get enough of Dru Hill and like real music you Got to Get this joint!
Excellent Solo Release from the Dru Hill star December 1, 1999 Sam (music appreciator) (Lubbock, Tx.) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
This is a magnificent album. A solid solo release from the Dru Hill star. What I enjoyed the most was the fascinating music that was played in here (the instruments I mean). Rhythm and blues music mixed with symphony, rock guitars, and hard-thumping beats. The song "So Sexual" is magnificent. One of the best songs I have EVER heard. Still, the album is not flawless. "Thong Song" would have been a much better song if there was another verse. There is only one (it is a good verse, but the fact remains there is only one). It is a shame, too, because the background music to it is great. One verse is just not enough. If Sisqo were to redo "Thong Song" with a second verse, then all will be forgiven. As for now, the song seems like one of his songs on here; "Incomplete". Lyrically, it is about sex, love and heartbreak, but is done very well. The guest appearances of Babyface, JaRule, and of course Dru Hill doesn't hurt at all. It is a magnificent R&B album with sensual beats, magnificent lyrics, and an awesome sound (original, innovative, and just plain good). Even though some of the songs seem too short (Got to Get It comes to mind, along with Thong Song), the album is still great. The short songs are good too, anyway. Definitely worth buying.
Sisqo's the ultimate performer/singer! March 17, 2000 ladydiva13 (Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I anticipated this album since I first heard he was doing one. It was worth the wait! Sisqo is truly talented, and this cd shows he can definately hold his own as a singer and entertainer. I love the whole album! My favorites are 1,2,5,6,7,8,9,10,12&13....okay so I like the whole thing... I 'm a true fan! Ever since Dru Hill's first album I have been watching their success. Sisqo has truly unleashed something fierce for the new millenium! Hey! Sisqo! If you are reading this, you did not disappoint. The "Thong Song" is DOPE! I could shonuff feel where you were coming from with your style. Thanks for sharing your gift.....much love! I can't wait for the Dru World Order!
Unleash the Dragon grows on you December 25, 1999 TiaLush@Hotmail.com (Bay Area, CA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
When I first heard Sisqo's solo debut I thought: Oh NO! This is such a Jodeci rip off! But after my brother played it over and over again I started coming around. 'Is Love Enough' IS a complete rip off of Jodeci's Cry 4 You, (there is no denying that) but still, a good song. 'Unleash The Dragon,' 'Got To Get It,' and 'Your Love Is Incredible,' are really good songs that display Sisqo's talent as a singer/song writer AND his obvious respect for other artist (JODECI). 'Thong Song' is crazy, I first heard it and thought it was the dumbest thing to hit a compact disc, but this song really has all the elements for a true hit: catchy lyrics, great chorus, bridge, hook, and crazy beats! Can't you just picture a club going ballistic when this track is on? (I just hope females don't go too crazy sporting the thongs) I must give Mr. Sisqo 1 minus point for Track 12. Word of Advice: Leave ALL Elton John material ALONE! I guess Sisqo wanted to show a bit of variety -- which is good, but Sisqo you do almost an entire CD with Sexual refrences, eating coochie invitations, and K-Ci 'ohh yeahs' and then you want to turn and do a dramatic ballad by Elton John! Oh No! Too Complicated! It just didn't fit and just turned out to be a big ole' MESS! All and All the CD is impresive. Lately R&B has been pure junk with garbage artist. Finally a good soulful CD hits the waves by a talented soulful artist. I'm Likin' it!
The CD Is Off The Hook! January 4, 2000 Jessica Jackson (Michigan, USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Sisqo combines hip-hop, R&B, and soul altogether and makes a hype record. I especially loved the "Thong Song", where he raps and sings. Since he is a very handsome and intelligent young male he is going to go very far in the music industry.
