| Editorial Reviews:
Amazon.com The lovable twins, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, have been growing up since their playful Brother for Sale. So it's no surprise that this Greatest Hits collection's opening frame of tunes (from Ballet Party) features them discussing the history of the sleepover party and their desire to travel to see the New York City Ballet. They're reaching adolescence, with richer voices and more precise articulation, and this becomes all the more clear when they sing Brother's title track in very young, cutesy voices. The twins have obviously captured more children's imagination since their debut and so this collection's emphasis is understandably on their later work. It's this work that makes this set best for kids 10 and older, especially the closing 4 songs--all of which relate to fashion, junior high school, and the mall. Many parents are pining for stuff this innocent for their near-adolescent kids and this collection is golden for that set. For parents of younger kids interested in the dynamic duo, start with the funny Brother for Sale or I Am the Cute One. --Andrew Bartlett

Ingenious Idiosyncrasies Enveloped In Enigmatic Engineering May 22, 2001 29 out of 33 found this review helpful
In this "Greatest Hits" album, we rediscover some of the earlier hits of these young twins. From the opening track, "Your Heartless Void", we hear a very early four track demo recorded before the girls were picked up by a major label. A truly telling song, we hear honest sincerity as Mary-Kate croons about the emptiness of modern romance and the delicate lines we all must walk to avoid a muddled, worthless existence. With Ashley-Olsen's gentle, yet telling classical guitar wafting in the background, we hear a sound eerily reminiscent of the early minimalist work of Lou Reed.On the next two songs, "Stabbing and Punching" and "Toothless Rookie," we are treated to the twins brief foray into the punk scene. Despite the repetitious brutal power chords and simplistic bridge-solos, the lyrics carry these songs onto a level formerly reserved only for the likes of The Ramones or even The Clash. "Stabbing" particularly stands out, with it's powerful ending of Mary-Kate screaming, "You can rip out my heart, but you'll never take my soul you filthy [expletive]!" It just doesn't get more meaningful than that, folks. The next five tracks should be skipped as they are the weakest of the album. Mostly all of them are about riding ponies or how cute ponies are or where is a good place to watch ponies. Contextually these tracks are quite funny as they seem to be mocking the music of popular children's recording artists, but, unfortunately, they do seem to drone on a bit. We got the joke, okay? The last three songs on the disc are certainly what made the girls the musical powerhouse they are today, as the production levels were greatly improved upon with the addition of Nigel Goodrich at the helms of these pop-classics. With, "I Wanna Dance All Night," we hear Mary-Kate's club anthem about dancing at all-night raves and meeting men with money, power, and guile by the truckload. In the duo's, "4 All My Posse," we see a different side of these girls as they share their take on gangsta rap. From what you hear, you could almost swear that they invented the style ("I always frontin' on them packin' muthas"/"Get my piece out, then we see who got more druthas"). The last track, a country song about a missing cat is simplicity, yet with such subtle sonic brilliance you might fall over and bump your head on a nearby chair. Certainly the best compilation in the last several years.
Blood curdling June 28, 2002 9 out of 21 found this review helpful
My daughter loves the Olsen twins and all their videos, so she had to have their CD too. She really likes it, but I have to leave the house whenever she puts it on. The cat won't even stay in the room. I have to believe that Mary-Kate and Ashley have the worst voices ever recorded, coupled with braindead lyrics and instrumention that sounds like it was created on a $19.99 keyboard from Kmart. They're talentless little zombies who are dumbing down the world, starting with my daughter. Someone should sue them for emotional distress. Their parents must be awful people.

YUCK April 7, 2000 5 out of 11 found this review helpful
YUCK. It's the Olsen Twins. The two most exploited children in history. They can't sing, but hey, they have blue eyes and blonde hair. We can make some money off of them. Disgusting.
