    5 out of 5 stars RELENTLESS   May 28, 2000

After the hardcore flavored VICTIMS OF OUR FALLEN WORLD, KATAKLYSM has returned to their death metal roots. For fans who long for some old skool NORTHERN HYPERBLAST, this is exactly what you get from the get go. From the opening blast of 1999:6661 you get the sense that KATAKLYSM mean business (Older fans like myself will find themselves smiling after the openig barrage). The drumming is absolutly brilliant, the riffs are equally impressive and all songs are all set on kill.

    Highlights of this album include:

1)Killer production. One of the best sounding death metal albums I have heard in a long time.

2)Their song writing is more focused.

3)Experimenting more with melodies. Check out THE RENAISSANCE. Great balance of melody and brutality

Overall an outstanding return to form. Definately one of the years best for me.

All of dissopointed fans of the past, take note. This album brings back memories from the old days. The drumming is simply amazing, very fast and tight. Vocals are good, though do not compare to Slylvain Houdes' style, (but who does?) This is deffinitely worth a listen, not Temple of Knowledge Kataklysm, but blows Victoms away.

Katkalysm have returned......everyone shall watch their feeble backs, bacause, Katkalysm punishes in a way that only sledge hammers can. Easily their best release, Katkalysm always amaze me. Their musical craftmanship is an artform rather than run of the mill deathmetal, lyrically they are unmatched. Watch out people KATKALYSM are back!

This album clicked with me the very first time I listened to it. All the aspects of this band just gel together. I don't want to drag this review on and on, so I'm just gonna summarize why this is is a great album and a great band:

1.) The production. It's very clean and crisp sounding which is perfect for the style of music being played.

2.) The lyrics. They're intelligent and well thought out.

3.) The lead vocals. The background vocals are way to high pitched which bears a disturbing resemblance to Dani Filth's vocals, but these vocals are perfect. They're low, but not too low.

4.) The musicianship. It's fairly technical, but they don't try to show off. They're humble and that's an aspect I've always admired in Metal bands.

Overall, this is a great extreme band and I just might pick up more of their releases. Definetly recommended.

I got sick of this after repeated listens, but still pretty quality.

The vocals could be better though. Much better.
