The Killer, slightly belligerent, rocks Georgia in 1972 August 21, 2003 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
A great album, well worth your time and money. Two cds capturing the Killer as he had just crested the peak of his commercial success in 1972. Recorded in Dalton, Georgia, the sound falls somewhere between a high quality crowd recording and an off-the-board mix -- jerry lee's voice is perhaps slightly louder than it should be, but certainly no big deal. Most Killer live shows available on cd were recorded at least a decade after this one, and the difference is palpable: Jerry Lee gets ornery with band and audience members, his legendary ego and temper fueled by the success he was then enjoying. The results -- including such amusements as a semi-musical, semi-rhymed interjected swipe at his guitarist for bending a note flat while paying too much attention to a woman -- are exactly what are missing from all too many JLL music-only cd's. The performances themselves are whiskey-soaked and, as is the case with all Jerry Lee live stuff, both intense and unique. Buy it, love it, drink to it.
