Amazon.com The fourth in the series of Top 40-tracking compilations strikes a good balance between pop radio played-to-death singles, R&B standouts, and straight-up rock chart stormers. The beginning of the disc is packed with requisite teen pop; however, the Britney Spears offering "(You Drive Me) Crazy" will probably disappoint those who were hoping for the more recent "Oops!... I Did It Again"). This disc, where the Italian group Eiffel 65's dance-pop smash "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" lives in the same space as Blink 182's "All the Small Things," Ben Harper's "Steal My Kisses," and Macy Gray's "I Try," is like channel surfing during drive-time radio hours and scoring with every hit of the "seek" button. --Beth Massa

Music to My Ears July 21, 2000 49 out of 55 found this review helpful
When I first listened to NOW 2 I was overall happy with the selections with the exceptions of a few of the slower songs, and when I listened to NOW 3 I had to skip around alot because I only enjoyed about four of the songs but when I heard the songs on NOW 4 it was music to my ears. The reason that I buy the NOW cd's is because you shouldn't have to change cd's or skip around to "the good song". I know that is why a lot of you buy these kind of cd's too and if you are this type of person NOW 4 is the cd for you! I features all the songs that you turn up the radio for and sing in the shower. In my opinion there is not a bad song on there but how could there be with artists like BSB, Britney Spears, Blink 182, N'Sync and Savage Garden and songs like "Candy," "I Try," "Try Again" and "Waiting for Tonight" There are songs for all types of music listeners...hip hop, r&b, rock, and alternative. Yes, I will admit it is geared toward the younger audiences but all ages are familiar enough with the songs to have some good sing along fun! Ok, so NOW that you know what this cd is all about listen to it and you'll be surprised how little you have to search for a good song!
Great CD! July 23, 2000 25 out of 29 found this review helpful
I agree with many other listeners. It seems that the Now! products recently have been empty, with a few jewels. BUT...I was in Wal-Mart one day, and saw a sign for NOW 4. Yes, it said some songs that weren't on there (Bye Bye Bye, Back at One, Ex Girlfriend...) But, that was my first awareness. I thought to myself - this could be cool...Then I saw a preview on the television. I couldn't believe my eyes! A CD with Britney Spears? Backstreet Boys? Aaliyah? Mandy Moore? Eiffel 65? Jennifer Lopez? Hanson? blink-182? Joe? All in ONE CD? I couldn't believe it. I immediately pre-ordered it. I was on vacation for a week when it was released. I came home Saturday, ripped open the CD, and listened to my heart's content. EXCEPT...There's only 1 exception. I was really hoping to hear the STOP Remix (the video and the radio version) of Drive Me Crazy by Britney Spears. But, it's just the version on the CD, which is ok, but not nearly as good as the other. That is the only bad part. I would seriously suggest if you like R&B (I Wanna Know; Joe), Teen Pop (Mandy Moore, Britney Spears) Hip-hop (Aaliyah; Try Again) and MUCH MORE, you should purchase this right away.
A Much Greater Blend of Hits than Now 3 July 19, 2000 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
When I first picked up Now 3, I was really dissapointed with the amount of songs that I had never heard before, basically from anonymous artists. What a difference one installment makes. Now 4 has much more well-known hits than Now 3. The only song that I had basically no experience with was Ben Harper. But the rest of the album is pretty good. With song hit yesteryear songs like "Larger than Life" ("Now"'s first Millenium song from BSB), "I Try" by Macy Gray and "All the Small Things" by blink-182, and some new songs like "Try Again" by Aaliyah and "This Time Around" by Hanson. I was most surprised by the inclusion of this song, which was one of the newest songs made for this album. Basically my complaint is that the fact that Now 4 does not include the much better-sounding remix verisons of "(You Drive Me) Crazy" by Britney Spears, and "Waiting for Tonight" by Jenifer Lopez. But the rest of the album is great. If you were turned off by the anonymous songs of Now 3, then you should have faith in Now 4. At the very least, it has a lot more well-known artists and songs.
A Strong Entry in the Now Series July 19, 2000 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
Who knows with these compilations? Volume 3 was the weakest of the U.S. version of the UK's Now sets, but this rebounds nicely. I believe these sets work best when they rescue good tracks from so-so albums. This is no exception. "Blue (Da Ba Dee)", "I Need To Know" from Marc Anthony, "I Knew I Loved You", Sonique, Montell Jordan, Joe, the best track from Mandy Moore's debut, "Candy" and Jennifer Lopez' "Waiting for Tonight." Train's "Meet Virginia" doesn't do much for me, but the inclusion of Aaliyah's great "Try Again" makes up for weaker tracks (i.e. Lenny Kravitz' "I Belong To You"). Even forgotten songs by Hanson "This Time Around" and Ben Harper "Steal My Kisses" come alive with all the good company. So, while you already may have the albums that the tracks from the Backstreet Boys, Blink 182, Macy Gray, Smash Mouth and Britney Spears come from, those are still great singles, and would make for a great mix tape. Which this basically is.
