Darryl Worley's debut races through the holes Brad Paisley has recently punched through country radio. Like Paisley, Worley sings with a relaxed and pleasant twang, loads his swinging arrangements with plenty of fiddles and pedal steel, and then, just as key, keeps the drums low enough so that you can actually hear those other strengths. No song here is as indelible as Paisley's "He Didn't Have to Be." But "A Good Day to Run" and "Feels Like Work," which solve a blue collar grind and a lousy marriage, respectively, by grabbing hands and running away to a smoking Strangers-styled groove, and "Those Less Fortunate Than I," which knows running away is sometimes no solution at all, are more than close enough. And Worley himself had a hand in writing 10 of these 12 tunes. This one's sure to be one of the better country debuts of 2000. --David Cantwell

5 out of 5 stars Country From The Heart   December 9, 2000

Hard Rain Don't Last is one of the best CDs I have bought in a long time. Each of these incredible songs is from Darryl's heart and will touch yours. I have had the pleasure of meeting Darry twice and he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet. He is an amazing singer and songwriter. Darryl Worley has a wonderful voice. A voice you can listen to over and over. If you enjoy true country music, you must get this CD. Hard Rain Don't Last is what country music is supposed to sound like. I look forward to hearing more from Darryl Worley. He will be making great music for years to come.

This CD is a blast of new country at it's finest! Darryl is sure to be the next Garth Brooks. Growing up in a small town, Darryl fought his way to where he is now and his music shows his struggle. Listen to the ache of abandonment in the song... "The Way Things Are Going," the yearning in "Second Wind", the swingin' good-time Romper "Sideways" and the freewheeling "Good Day To Run,". Even the song of unnecessary frills with a hint of humor "Too Many Pockets" -- and remember that country music used to be the voice of the working people who lived life just as fully, felt just as deeply and coped with the getting-by with dignity. These are Darryl Worley's people, and Hard Rain Don't Last is for them. I had the chance to meet Darryl at a local radio station as he promoted this CD. Acoustically with two friends he actually performed all the music located on thisfirst CD. Darryl is the country boy that all women love to adore. Pick it up today! This CD is number one!

4 out of 5 stars Darryl Worley- A breath of fresh air   December 7, 2000

I listen to all kinds of music, but was raised on Country, which remains my favorite. In the 80's, you could have traditional country songs played on the radio, followed by a contemporary country song. The 90's wasnt like that at all, but I feel that Traditional is definitely coming back. Alan Jackson, and a few others kept it country, but were out numbered. Now, with the help of Brad Paisley, Craig Morgan, and Darryl Worley, and a handful of other new artists, I feel that they are carrying the banner for traditional country music, and will reclaim their spot on "Country" radio. Darryls new cd is very fresh and exciting. To be honest, the first single didnt catch my ear, but man, the second single "Good day to run", I knew this was a REAL COUNTRY singer. So many great songs, but my favorite is ballad called "Second Wind". The first time I listened to that song, it brought tears to my eyes thinking that if Keith Whitley were alive today, thats the type of songs we'd be hearing from him. Darryl put together one excellent collection for being the debut cd, and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves Traditional Country Music.

5 out of 5 stars Great new country!   July 30, 2000

With so much pop-country on the radio today from people like Shania Twain and such, it's a relief to know that there are some newcomers that still know how to do real country music. Darryl Worely obviously has listened to George Strait's music, it shows on cuts like "A Good Day To Run", and especially, "Too Many Pockets", which sounds just like a George Strait song right down to the steel guitar in the background! He shows a bluegrass edge on "Who's Gonna Get Me Over You?", and shows his wacky side on "If I Could Just Be Me", one of the best on the album, highlighted by the strange guitar sound at the end. Songs like "Sideways", "Is It Just Us?" and "The Way Things are Goin" are also well worth hearing. Darryl is the best thing to happen to country music since George himself!

I have to say that out of all the New Artist(s) putting music out there, you can't get anymore Country!
There is not one "bad" song on this CD. All songs are wonderfly written and sung.
Look out Alan Jackson, Darryl Worley is on your tail and gaining speed!

    This one is a keeper!
