Thank you, Sweetness August 1, 2000 Richie Getto (Bozeman, MT USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Light Years is a confused look at why someone so special had to pass on. It was written with a dear friend of the lyricists in mind; someone who seemed to bring joy to those who knew them. It is about the questions and regret left over after a loss. It is truly special. I would have given this 5 stars, but the sound quality on the two live tracks leaves a little to be desired. Grievance is a powerful rocker full of emotion with a driving bass line, and yet, the drums do not seem full, and Jeff is all but missing from the recording. Still very good, but not great.
Great Live B-sides July 20, 2000 Craig Atulp (PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Obviously, you've heard the song 'Light Years,' so there's no sense in talking about that...but the live version of 'Grievance' makes this single more than worth it...more energy and punch than the album's version, this song really flies live. And the timid little version of 'Soon Forget' is quite charming in itself. Another great Pearl Jam single...
Very personal and moving. April 10, 2002 Roger I. Camara Lemarroy (monterrey, nuevo leon Mexico) This has got to be one of the few PJ songs where Ed Vedder really lets people see what he feels in a simple way. The song is written more as a tribute, than a personal track. It deals with the loss of someone very important to him in life, and someone of great influence. This song is also great because it was composed by the whole band together. Its probably the most touching and commercial song in Binaural. And because of its format and sentiment, it could be a hit like "last kiss" was."Grievance" and "Soon Forget" are live tracks with excellent sound. These are sort of a preview of the Bootlegs that would be released a few moths after the single.

INCREDIBLE! THIS IS ONE OF PEARL JAM'S BEST SINGLES! July 19, 2000 robbie (utica, mississippi United States) ok i just bought light years at the mall.......i mean for 4 bucks you get the incredible "light years", the pounding "grievance", and the brilliant"soon forget"....im one of those guys who gotta get all the singles so with the live tracks this is a must and it doesnt dissapoint! ..first of all ''light years'' is a beautifally written song about a lost friend ..its one of those singalongs and u will find the song really sticks in your head..the lyrics are beautiful...next is "grievance" live....this even rivals the studio recording of grievance..the guitars and vedder's screaming vocals are brilliant...."soon forget" live is great too ..im sure this one will entertain fans at concerts for years..its just vedder and a ukelele....vedder even messes up at the end but corrects it....a terrific single to add to your pearl jam collection.
