5 out of 5 stars Long Live Our Troubadour!   June 17, 2001
    WR (Goiania, Goias, Brazil)

Any die-hard Dylan fan knows that Bob is an open-hearted human being, a poet so good at conveying our feelings because he knows how to convey his own. At the age of 60, here he comes again, quenching our thirst for good poetry, with this amazing single CD:

    1) "Things have changed" - a real bliss! More than ever, Bob shows us some irony that can surely be taken as a synonym of wisdom! If his sad poetry, like Idiot Wind, was wonderful, what can we say about this? Besides the cheerful bass line and guitars, the lyrics are nothing but excellent, not only for the very well chosen rimes, but also for the whole imagery suggested: what a picture is to imagine Uncle Bob wheeling a woman down the street in a wheel barrow. What about Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy?

    2) "Highlands (live)" - listen to it at least twice, it's bound to grow on you. This must be the best song ever written about death, and the dialog with the waitress in the Boston Town Restaurant sounds way wittier here than on Time Out Of Mind.

    3) "Blowin' in the wind (live)" - nothing special. Sounds a bit like The Times They Are A-changing from MTV unplugged, but it's ok.

    4) "Make you feel my love (live)" - to be honest, I never listen to this. Never did like it, not even the original version, and this doesnt happen to be any better. Since it's the last track, it doesn't actually bother the listening experience.

5 out of 5 stars Things Have Changed CD Single, 3 Reviews in One   October 1, 2003

Three reviews in one, because anyone who buys one of these CD singles is going to want to buy them all. Also, it's easier to understand just what you're getting with these singles if you can see them all together.

Love Sick: Dylan Alive Vol. 1. (Japan) Eight Tracks on Two CDs. First CD: 1. Love Sick (Album version), 2. Can't Wait, 3. Roving Gambler, 4. Blind Willie McTell. Second CD: 1. Love Sick (Grammy Version), 2. Cold Irons Bound, 3. Cocaine Blues, 4. Born In Time

Not Dark Yet: Dylan Alive Vol. 2 (Japan). 1. Not Dark Yet (Album Version), 2. Boots Of Spanish Leather, 3. Tears Of Rage, 4. Senor (Tales Of Yankee Power)

Things Have Changed: Dylan Alive. Vol. 3 (Japan). 1. Things Have Changed (Album Version), 2. Highlands, 3. Blowin' In The Wind, 4. Make You Feel My Love

With the exception of the three album versions and the version of "Love Sick" recorded at the Grammy's the rest of the songs were recorded live on that tour of Mr. Ds that never ends.

It doesn't take too much imagination to see that if the people in the suits at Sony threw away the album versions of the above songs, they could combine the rest of the stuff on the three CD singles and make a pretty darned good live album that would be representative of Dylan's Never Ending Tour. Who knows, maybe in the future we'll get lucky and they'll do that. I say lucky, because these songs are great and Dylan is in fine voice. This stuff belongs together, should be listened to together. We can only hope, but until then, they all get five stars.

5 out of 5 stars Times Have Changed   July 29, 2000

I knew when I first heard Times Have Changed that it was going to be a great CD, and kept waiting and waiting to hear where I could find it. The only disappointment about this CD is how great it is an how hard it was to find out about. I do not own every single thing Dylan has, but this is a must have.

5 out of 5 stars Great rare live tracks!   March 1, 2008
    OutsideTheLaw (Washington, DC USA)
There are quite a number of Dylan CD singles from the 1999-2001 period, and this is one of the two or three best. You get the album version of Things Have Changed -- one of the few places to get it, since it wasn't released domestically until "Essential." Highlands is from Santa Cruz, CA, March 16, 2000 -- probably the second best live version of only about eight or ten ever performed (the one from Newcastle, Australia in March 2001 is perfect). The version of Blowin' In The Wind is anthemic -- from the same Santa Cruz show! -- filled with beautiful harmonies over cascading acoustic guitars -- this was chosen by Dylan as the closing music over the closing credits of his "Masked and Anonymous" film in 2002. Make You Feel My Love -- Bob jokes that its the song he wrote for Garth Brooks -- is from the Pauley Pavilion show in Los Angeles, May 21, 1998, and is a great version. Enjoy!

3 out of 5 stars Poor mixing spoils the music   October 1, 2007
Bronx Guy (new york, ny United States)
Whether due to improper mic positioning and/or bad mixing, the live tracks are ruined for this listener (who is a big BZD fan) by inappropriate crowd noise poorly mixed in.
Sounds like you are directly behind a raucous frat party that rumbled and stumbled into the concert.
The morale? Bob couldn't care less what I think and perhaps neither should the reader.
